You Made Me Love You
True love doesn’t always work the way it is supposed to.

Tegoshi looked at the new boy. He somewhat felt bad for him. Maki-chan was bothering him usual. She always went for the hot guys. He went back to eating lunch and laughing with his friends Shige and Massu. It was not like the boy mattered to him anyway. Later that day was the beginning of the new elective cycle. Tegoshi sat down. Sigh, it was another class where he didn’t know anyone. Then, the new boy sat down right next to him, without a word. Half the cycle past, everyday now he would see the new boy eating lunch with Maki-chan. One day during cycle, Tegoshi had to ask the new boy, “Do you seriously like her?”
“Like who?” The new boy asked smiling and for the first time looking at Tegoshi directly in the eyes.
“Maki-chan.”
“She’s all right. Do you not like her?”
“Most definitely not. Heh. By the way, I’m Tegoshi Yuya.”
“Yamashita Tomohisa.”
--
Tegoshi laughed as he remembered when he had first spoke to Yamapi. It had been only two years ago and now they did almost everything together of course with Massu. Shige had taken a different course, so he had split away from us. Also, in his spare time, Shige had been spending time with his new boyfriend Koyama, and upperclassman. We are still friends thou.
Now the weird thing was, Yamapi has being having on and off relationships with Maki- chan. I guess he fell in love with her. At this moment they weren’t going out, but Tegoshi had a feeling that they would start again soon. “We are just friends” was just crap.
Tegoshi stared off at two young boys chasing each other around the open field in the park. It was like him and Massu when they were 6. They did almost everything together. Sometimes he would wonder what would happen if he suddenly kissed Massu….
“Yo!” Yamapi walked in front of Tegoshi and swatted him lightly on the head.
“Hey. And OW!” Tegoshi rubbed his head.
“What? That shouldn’t have hurt! So weak Tegoshi :P” Yamapi laughed. “So what are you thinking about? You looked kind of dazed.”
“Nothing.” Tegoshi answered quickly, trying to shake the idea of kissing Massu from his head.”
“Aww. I have known you long enough to know that there is something up. So just tell meeee. I have never asked for anything from you beforeeeeee.”
“Fine, fine. You really want to know?” Tegoshi started to feel a little uncomfortable. He knew that he and Yamapi shared a lot, but he didn’t know what Yamapi would think of him this time…
“YEA. Hurry up~~”
“I think… I think I love Massu.” Tegoshi gazed at the two far away boys again. How he longed for the touch of Massu’s lips.
“Oh…”Yamapi felt the jealousy burn inside him.
“Yea, now you must think I’m weird don’t you. I am sorry. Forget what I just said.” Tegoshi looked away very uncomfortable.
“No, I don’t think you are weird. I loved a guy before too, I think you should tell Massu how you feel. I think he will understand.” Yamapi gripped Tegoshi’s face between his fingers and smiled at him, looking directly in his eyes.
“Really? Are you sure?” Tegoshi gazed back in the dark brown orb and a smile spread across his face, matching the one Yamapi was giving him.
“Yeps.” Yamapi released his hand and slumped back on the park bench.
“So so, who is the boy you liked?” Tegoshi’s curiosity overpowered his worrying.
“Not telling~” Yamapi chuckled and shook his head.
“Why not~? I just told you my secret, why can’t you tell me yours? “ Tegoshi pouted, whimpering a little.
No matter what, Yamapi couldn’t resist the cuteness coming from Tegoshi’s pout. “Fine, fine. I will give you hints.”
“Awwwww… You know I am bad at guessing! Just tell me~~”
“NOOOOOO. Here, the person I liked likes himself a little too much.”
“Ryo-chan?”
“No.”
“Who? JUST TELL ME!!!”
“Fine, Fine. I loved you.” Yamapi said looking down at his feet.
“What?” Tegoshi glanced wide-eyed at Yamapi, not believing what the other had just said to him.
“…I loved you…but that was in the past. Now I don’t think of you in that way.” He repeated in a hush whisper.
Tegoshi smiled warmly at Yamapi, “Thank you. I am really touched.”
“Touched?” Yamapi had been expecting more.
“Yes, I admire you a lot. I am glad you liked me.”
“So do you would like me back or not?” Yamapi began to get frustrated. All he wanted was a straightforward answer that was it.
“I am sorry, but I don’t love you in that way. I still admire you though.” Tegoshi’s smile shone brightly.
“Ah, that’s ok. It was the past anyway.” Yamapi felt as if his heart broke in two. Why did it have to turn out this way?
--
“Ne, ne, Massu~ What would you do if I liked you?” Tegoshi skipped beside Massu on their way home.
With a mouthful of donut, Massu replied, “Nothing I guess, I just wouldn’t love you back that way… and maybe stay a little further away from you…”
“Oh really?” Tegoshi could feel the tears rushing up to his face.
“Yep. “Massu nodded and crumbs were sent flying everywhere. “Why?”
“Oh, I was just wondering… but we will always be good friends ne~?”
“Of course.” Massu laughed and ruffled Tegoshi’s hair. “No lets go get some gyoza~ I have been wanting to eat so ALL day!”
--
That night Tegoshi rushed over to Yamapi’s apartment. Yamapi lived alone because his mother decided to work in the rural areas while he was going to school in Tokyo. He banged on Yamapi’s door, tears streaming one by one down his face.
“What is it?” Yamapi groggily opened the door. He had just been napping. It was only once in a while when he could sleep at 9 p.m. Once he saw Tegoshi he pulled him into a quick embrace and patted the younger one’s back. “Oh no… What’s wrong?”
“Ma…ma…Massu said that he wouldn’t like me back in the way I do… and he said that he might even stay away from me!” Tegoshi wailed into Yamapi’s shoulder.
“Shhhh…shhhhh. It’s ok. Here come inside. You can stay with me if you like tonight. I don’t think you want to face your mother like this.” Yamapi helped Tegoshi inside.
“Oh…ok. If I am not a pain to you that is…” Tegoshi found himself to be led to Yamapi’s bed.
“So tell me… Are you going to give up on Massu now?” Yamapi walked over to where Tegoshi was sitting and handed him a box of tissues.
“Yea… what else I can do?” Tegoshi sniffled into a tissue.
“I have nooooo idea. Well, that’s ok. There are plenty more people that you can like.” Yamapi smiled at Tegoshi.
“Sooo Yamapi who made you… start liking guys?” Tegoshi asked remembering what Yamapi had said to him at the park.
“…you…” Yamapi looked away avoiding Tegoshi’s curious eyes trying to hide his embarrassment.
“Oh… So do you like a guy now? Or is it just Maki-chan?”
“There is a guy I like… that makes me horrible doesn’t it… that I am going out with Maki-chan and liking someone else at the same time.” Yamapi sighed at the thought.
“No… It’s not that bad. You can’t help who you love~ So who is the lucky fellow.” Tegoshi stuck his tongue out at Yamapi. There regular cheerfulness returning to him..
“An old friend of mine, back in Chiba. You wouldn’t know him…” Yamapi was lying straight thru his teeth. Not like Tegoshi knew thou.
“Oh really. What’s his name?”
“Toma…Yea… he was from my middle school.”
“Cool~”
“Yea… Why don’t we sleep now? Here you can take the bed, I’ll take the couch.” Yamapi got off the bed and started to walk out of the room.
“You sure? I don’t want to ruin your sleep.”
“No it’s ok.”
“We can sleep together if you would like.” Tegoshi suggested.
“Heh. Do you want to get punched?” Yamapi held up his knuckles where he had scabs from punching the wall and pointed at the dents next to his bed stand.
“I guess not then. Well, good night~” Tegoshi drew the covers over himself and gave Yamapi a slight wave.
“Night.” With that, Yamapi flicked off the lights.
--
After school, Tegoshi rushed up to Yamapi. “Would you mind if I stayed over at your place one more night? I can take the couch if you would like…” Tegoshi began to mumble.
“Of course I wouldn’t mind!” Yamapi smiled. He loved the sight of Tegoshi sleeping. Not that he was watching him or anything…
--
Both boys plopped on the bed lying side by side.
Tegoshi spoke up first, “Do you have any secrets from me?”
Looking over at the boy next to him, Yamapi rose his eyebrows, “Why would you ask that?”
“Nothing. I’m just curious. I have practically told you everything.”
“Well, there is this one thing…”
“Ooh! What is it?” Tegoshi immediately sat up and began bouncing on the bed.
“Here figure this riddle out. “- -- --. - ---- ---.”
“What? You know I suck at guessing. How many times do I have to tell you?”
It took Tegoshi about half an hour trying to figure out the first two words. “UGH! I can’t possibly figure out the third word of the first sentence! Can’t you just tell me Pipi~?”
“Fine… it is bi…. You used it before haven’t you.”
“Oh well. That’s nothing. I already knew that!” Tegoshi scoffed.
“Well, the thing that I haven’t told you is that… Toma wasn’t the first guy I liked…. It was you.” Yamapi closed his eyes when he spoke.
“Why didn’t you tell me before silly?” Tegoshi playfully hit Yamapi on the chest.
“Because I didn’t think you would like me anymore…”
“How could I not like you? You are my best friend Pi.”
“Yea, I guess…”
“So is there more?” Tegoshi turned on his side to completely face Yamapi.
“Yea, you haven’t figured out the second part of the sentence yet.”
“Oh um, the first word is ‘I’ and the last word is ‘you’, am I right?” Tegoshi asked.
“Yea. See you aren’t that bad at guessing.”
“Oh yes I am believe me. Soo.. hmmm….UGH!!! I can’t figure out the second word!!!” Tegoshi frustratedly folded his arms over his chest.
“Just think…” Yamapi became anxious as Tegoshi got closer and closer to the right answer.
“AH! You HATE me??”
“No!! How could I?” Yamapi sighed, “ It is the opposite of that.”
“You love me?” Tegoshi asked wide-eyed.
“Yea…” Yamapi turned so his back faced Tegoshi.
Tegoshi’s became small, “Still?”
“Yea…”
“Oh…” Tegoshi was shocked at the reply.
There were minutes of silence. Until Tegoshi spoke up, “What if I liked you too? Would you like me enough to dump Maki-chan and go out with me?”
Yamapi hesitantly paused and answered, “Yes…”
“Oh… Well then can I try something?” Tegoshi crawled on top of Yamapi and kissed him tenderly on the lips.
Yamapi responded to the kiss and welcomed it warmly.
The kiss turned more passionate, fingers got tangled in each other’s hair.
Yamapi peeled off his shirt and Tegoshi’s as he planted butterfly kisses everywhere he could on the younger boy’s fair skinned body.
“I love you.”
“I love you back.”
A soft moan escaped Tegoshi’s lips. He wrapped his arms around Yamapi’s neck and whispered with his voice filled with lust, “More, Pi, more.”
--
The next morning the two woke up. Tegoshi was cradled in Yamapi’s, both naked and lain on messy sheets.
Tegoshi slowly raised his head off of Yamapi’s moobs and poked Yamapi’s cheek gently. “Wake up! You are soooo lazy!”
Yamapi woke with a start realized the position he was in with Tegoshi and quickly got off the bed, trying to find his clothes.
Tegoshi laughed at the sight. “You know I saw everything yesterday, so I see no point in hiding now.”
“Um… about that…Let’s forget about yesterday… I didn’t mean anything I said. I was just taken over by the uh…kissing. Ok? I don’t love you ok? Just as friends.” Yamapi stuttered not meaning anything he said. He just didn’t want Tegoshi to say those word to him first.
“Ok.. I understand and I feel the same way.” Tegoshi didn’t agree one single bit. He just didn’t want Yamapi to know that he had fallen in love with him. Tegoshi hurriedly got dressed and headed out the apartment with a wave. “See you in school in Monday, Pi.”
--
Thruout the next week, Yamapi had almost been completely ignoring Tegoshi and spending all his time with Maki-chan. Everytime the two passed each other by, beither of them said a word to each other.
Tegoshi felt a huge lightning bolt of jealousy every time Maki-chan came by laughing and draping herself all over Yamapi.
--
Eventually, both began to talk again as if nothing had happened between them.
Tegoshi felt as thou his heart was breaking more in two everyday. He had to ask Yamapi; he just had to.
--
“Are you still bi, Pi?” Tegoshi sat on the edge of a rock, swinging his legs back and forth.
“Yea. I guess.” Yamapi looked out into the sea, watching the sun fade away.
“Do you still like me?” Tegoshi finally asked the question he had really wanted to ask.
“No. I don’t.”
“Oh,” Tegoshi smiled, but inside he began to cry. It hadn’t been the answer he had been wanting. Not at all. “I see.”
“Yea.” Yamapi kept staring in front of him, not daring to look at Tegoshi.
“Well, you should be heading back. It is getting late.” Tegoshi feigned a happy grin and held out his hand to Yamapi.
“Ok. What about you?” Yamapi mirrored Tegoshi’s smile.
“I am going to stay for a while. I promised Massu a seashell.”
“Ok, then. See you later.” Waving, Yamapi left for the train station.
“Bye bye…” Making sure Yamapi was out of sight, Tegoshi let the tears fall. You made me love you, but now my feelings will never be returned. Why is it that I can’t be mad at you? I fell deeper and deeper in love… with my best friend…you...Tegoshi unconsciously headed towards the waves, licking the shores angrily as if their tongues were spears.

15 YEAR-OLD BOY FOUND WASHED UP ON THE SHORE, DEAD, IDENTIFIED AS TEGOSHI YUYA.

Yamapi read the headline in shock. He lay his head in his arms and cried. How could you leave me? You were the only one I have ever loved. I love you Tegoshi, my best friend and my love.
