I go through stages of being really really bad at updating this thing... LJ laziness, I think. ;)
Anyway - Happy Easter! Hope you all had a lovely one. :) I've been back at my parents' house for a week now and time has just flown by, I've been so busy... I spent about three days when I got back unpacking and resorting my room, opening cupboards that hadn't been opened in years, throwing out old paperwork and adding things to the e-bay/charity shop pile (which I really must sort out... another job for next week!). This was at least partly inspired by the realisation that I'm going to be back here, in this house, next year and my room isn't as much my room as the one in Canterbury is. I think this is largely because I have white built-in furniture which I really dislike. I can't reach the upper cupboards without a chair, and they and the bookshelves all really deep, which sounds good on paper but unfortunately means that you can't reach or see anything...
I've largely sorted the problem now, I think, by buying storage boxes and using a couple of small bookcases left to us by my Gran. I love them because they just fit all my books and I love antique-y/old furniture... Which is why I dislike the white built-in stuff so much. No character. :P I'm not happy where the bookcases are at the moment but there's nowhere else they can go, so it'll have to do. :P
On Easter Sunday we had lunch at the rector of my parents church, as we have before... That man really knows how to cook! Seriously, I dream all year round of this desert he makes, made of cream, marscapone cheese, citrus rind, and magical fairy dust, or something - it is AMAZING. Also, he has a fantastic sense of humour. I can't think of another priest I've meet who would have a glow in the dark baby Jesus, racing nuns and a portrait of the Virgin Mary that lights up, just in his bathroom. He's been known to wear a t-shirt saying "Too many Christians, not enough lions" to Christian conferences. My kind of humour. ;)
Anyway, that was a beautiful lunch, eaten in the Rectory's enormous garden and then I spent the evening catching up with some old friends, who then wanted to go into Brighton (on a Sunday? WTF?), so we went to the Walkabout, bumping into some people we knew from school, which was... interesting. It was a nice night, actually.. My friends here can be tempestuous, shall we say, but everyone got on very well and we had a giggle. Easter Monday was spent watching TV and then we went to go see Vikki and Chris' new flat in Worthing. Except, by the time we got there, they'd spent all day entertaining and, fed up with it, had fled to the pub. So a quick trip to see the flat became a three hour pub trip and then a quick cuppa at the flat (which was pretty nice. Very long. :P).
It's been nice to be home and to be spending some quality time with people (like this evening, when Clare kidnapped me and we watched Olly create a bonfire in their back garden and then sat around it eating BBQ) but I should really be doing some revision... And tomorrow, I supposed to be headng off on a four day dig in Hastings with some friends. I say supposed because the woman I'm supposed to be staying with hasn't contacted Becca and I and we can't get hold of her, so... I'm not sure what's going on there. :P
If you don't hear from me before Sunday, then I'm in Hastings, digging up... something. I'm not clear on what exactly. ;) I'll probably get sun burnt.
friends,
family,
movin back
