I founds a bone!

I always find bones on digs. I have a talent! :D

Unfortunately, the dig was not... I was going to say successful, but in archaeology even a negative is informative. In other words, they thought they had a site of an Anglo-Saxon manor house and in fact they had a sandstone outcrop. Which is a shame, because, duh, no walls or other fun things but, still, it's always good to know when something's not there. Also, the people in charge were extremely friendly and willing to teach, so I feel I know now a little more about landscape archaeology, which is when you look at every lump and bump in the land and are able to tell whether it's natural or the remains of something interesting... Well, I find it interesting. ;P

I don't think I could do archaeology as a career, partly because it's an extremely difficult and low paid career to get into and also because every professional archaeologist I've ever met has gone "O_O Don't get into archaeology" which gets a bit disheartening. Still, I do really enjoy digs. You know that feeling when you were a kid and you were digging in the garden, or on the beach or wherever and you suddenly found something and it didn't matter that it was just an old can ring pull or the broken plate your mother threw out the week before or something; it was treasure. That's the feeling I still get when my trowel uncovers something.

And, hey, you get to spend all day outside on beautiful days in stunning countryside. Or at least I did for the last five days. ;) I think I got a bit of colour on my cheeks but miraculously didn't burn. Also, the countryside around the East Sussex/Kent border is just lovely. Of course, to me, nothing is as lovely as the South Downs but it was very beautiful.

My tea's gone cold. :( And I'm back to revision... :((
