James reached out and brushed the backs of two fingers across Asriel’s cheek. He almost expected to get shocked, feel a jolt or pain or tingle or something, but there was nothing but smooth skin and rough beard.

“Don’t think about her.”

Asriel’s eyes flicked up to his, sharp and clear and bright blue. God, thought James, is this really the effect I have on people? He slid his hands through familiar-feeling hair and at an unfamiliar angle, bringing their mouths together for a kiss

As for Mrs. Belacqua, she's part of his cover as a normal rich eccentric in the bondverse. It makes more sense in the full version.

Oh, good. That's just about everything I was aiming for, there. They both got more characterization in the movie than the book, and I wanted to bring out the personalities we got to see.
