Last Sunday the black cat was totally fine, until he wasnt. We came back from a walk and he's in the kitchen on the rug where he never is, then he proceeds to sadly meow, lick his lips and act like he's in pain or dying or somethign. I instantly assume it's got to be another crystal. I offer him food, which he wolfs down but is still hunched over and tail down an meowing misserably. So off to the vet we go... After looking him over, they say his bladder is not full (thats good) though his heart rate seems to be a bit fast (cat at vet, need I say more?) They want to do x-ray's of his chest and bloodwork, and oh, he has a heart murmer... I say do the bloodwork so we know if he has an issue with his urine. They think I should do the x-rays instead. No, sorry. If he has lung or heart issues, hes going to be put down anyway, because I cant spend more money to fix that. At least if it's a bladder infection or something, we can treat that. (though honestly if he did have crystals, I'm sure that woudl cost an ever loving fortune as well...) So more $ than I wanted to blow on the damn cat later... he goes home and as soon as he's out of the carrier, he's back to his old self. The vet calls a few days later, his tests are clear.. and he's fine all week. FML
Today, he dissapears and we find him hiding down celler. He wont come up for food or anything. Finally I bring him food down to him later in the day. He does get up to eat that and seems mostly fine after that.
The one thing that I can possibly thing of that links these two episodes together is that Last Sunday I changed the litter box and put in a different brand of clumping cat litter (we have always used clumping litter). Yesterday, I added to the litter after I cleaned the box. So now I'm wondering... is there somethign in the new brand of cat litter that he's reacting to, that's making him sick? I dont know, but I'm going to get some non clumping litter of some kind tomorrow to use. Its the only thing I can think of that might be doing this.
