Totally cant recall what else I was going to .. oh, wait, yes.

College! FUCK COLLEGE. Seriously. I am so sick of all things that have to do with college. And it's only just begun. Went to an informational session at the school Tues. night with my neighbor, who has a perfect child with perfect athletic ability. Lives and breaths sports. Yay team. ( Read more... )

OMG THIS! I don't have any super lofty dreams or ideas or talents or ambitions. My greatest goal in life is really to just be able to pay my own rent, bills, and have enough money to buy books and cat toys. Sure I'd like more, but it's not this overwhelming need or drive. I hate how college is supposed to be this GRAND WORKING TOWARDS THE SUPER BEST YOU! It clogs up the gears.

I also agree that general education courses are a total scam. Do I really need to know quadratic equations to work for a newspaper or for a court system? Do I really need to know the laws of aerodynamics to file paperwork? (Maybe if I'm making paper airplanes, but that's a totally off duty hobby.) Really! I so, so hear you!

Himself will do great at a state school. He's got a very good support system behind him and a great rational head on his shoulders. And I think having parents who understand that college isn't about becoming a rock star (even though that's what it's pushed as) will really help him go far. Part of what I struggle with is that I'm not gonna be a rock star. So him having you guys working with him on that is going to help him be way more practical and make better choices.

(Also I hate perfect parents with their perfectly ambitious kids. You know those are the parents who freak out once the empty nest syndrome hits and they suddenly don't have their perfect kids as a daily identity anymore. You and your husband won't have that problem!)
