Various bits of life stuff

Last CSA of this year! In the final bag: salad greens, arugula, 6 smallish daikon radishes, a dozen squash blossoms, ~1 lb. okra, 3 med/large summer squash, 1 large pattypan-type squash, 4 small green tomatoes, and 1 small globe eggplant.

I made a frittata using the squash blossoms and part of one squash, plus some spinach and onions - that I am having for lunches this week, along with rosemary whole wheat bread. I grilled last week's and this week's eggplant with garlic, basil, and olive oil. Sauteed the okra - I had all I needed frozen for gumbo so we're just eating it as a veg this time. Made squash fritters with the remaining squash. Salad, of course. I'll fry up the green tomatoes probably tomorrow night, and one of these days will make carrot-daikon pickle, which SO likes pretty well. I also made salmon baked with leeks, Thai chicken soup, and a baked pumpkin stuffed with brown rice, kale, onions, mushrooms, and some smoked turkey sausage - that we'll have tonight, but I tried a bite when I was containerizing it and it's pretty yummy.

My fiction muse is still mostly absent (and I NEED to get the hd_holidays story done) but I managed to get this month's
daily_deviant fic written and posted on time (link below). I also finished editing a nonfic essay for professional publication and just sent that back to the volume editor; am tracking down a couple of possible illustrations for it, and then I'll be done, whee!

Not this week, but next, is Fall Break; I don't get it, really, but I'm going to take two days off to coincide with SO's break (mine uni has it Mon-Tue, his Thur-Fri) and we are driving to St. Louis to visit my dad, go to the symphony and see an exhibit at the art museum there. Juno will stay home and our neighbors will dogsit; that seems better than either a kennel or taking her on a long drive only to be cooped up in a hotel room for three days. I am definitely looking forward to the break.

Had to buy a new laptop last weekend as the screen on my old one died; its keyboard had several very sticky keys, too, and it was 4 or 5 years old, so I decided replacement was the better choice over repair. I'm having some keyboard issues, though; it might be the way I hit the keys, as SO suggested, so I will give it a couple more days to see what happens. If I'm still having trouble I'll be seeing if I can swap the thing, so I'm not going to install anything else or move any files onto it until I decide that.

Work remains mostly very busy. Lots of network/printer issues on the public computers, which is a PITA. I'm also working on setting up some new things for our interlibrary loan which - if they work right - ought to make it easier to search for materials within groups of libraries that will lend to us for free.

I am more or less infinitely behind on email, commenting on LJ/IJ/DW, etc.... I'm really sorry about that. :-( Am reading snippets here and there, but not consistently and not commenting. Hoping that I have not inadvertently missed anything like a crisis or a celebration in anyone's life. I did miss the
daily_deviant Kinky Kristmas sign-ups, *sigh*, but have put my name down as a possible pinch-hitter. I am pretty sure no Yuletide this year for me, and I'm not yet sure whether I will undertake
3fan_holidays or not... or even if I will make my usual holiday drabble offer. I would feel too badly if I didn't come through on these things, and right now I'm not convinced I can handle it.

That's all kind of gloomy. On the positive side, I am now down nine pounds from my high weight. Still a long way to go to where I would like to be, but this is a step in the right direction.
