These are my notes on the first chapter of "A Concise History of Poland". This chapter goes from the 900's or so to 1385. Some notes are just little historical things, others are Hetalia-fied.
  • Poland was never ruled by the Roman Empire, but they had rich trade with them, some other empires and The Orient.
  • Poland first appeared in the late 900's (physical age would be 8 or so)
  • He first learned German in the 1200's because that's what his nobles spoke. Polish was a language for the lower class.
  • He became Christian around the same time the country first formed, he wasn't too happy about it, but eventually embraced it.
  • Aged one or two years under the rule of Mieszko I and his successors as they made Poland strong and united.
  • Prussia of this time was Pagan, but the Teutonic Knights moved in in 1227 and slowly he converted.
  • In 1241, Poland suffered through several raids by the Mongols (which would be either Golden Hordes or Tartar Russia )
  • Poland was in bad shape in this period of time, but first became friends with Hungary in the early 1300's
  • Due to royal marriages, his relationship with both Hungary and Lithuania strengthened.
  • First had to fight against Teutonic Prussia in the 1330's. (He was about 11 physically at this point)
  • With Hungary's help, Poland seized some Tartar land in the 1350's
  • Lot's of raids from Lithuania. (Liet beating up Poland coz he was crushing?)
  • Lot's of border growth over the next few decades, but remains somewhat weak for a country.
  • "King" Jadwiga married Joglia of Lithuania... Lithuania converts to Catholicism.
(will write more after finishing the 2nd chapter)
