As per Tom's request...
The following are the top 5 songs I'm into right now and reason why
1. Carbon Monoxide- Cake
I've always liked Cake, and I've had this song for quite sometime, but I never really listened to to until recently. Now it's one of my favorite 13 Cake songs. The rhythm is great, and it's got this interesting pseudo-60's pyshcidelic feel while at the same time is very minimalistic. Cake is awesome; I hope I can appreciate more of their stuff later in life.
2. Fable- Gatsby's American Dream
This song I've listened to so much in the last couple weeks it's almost lost its magic... but not yet. The album Volcano has some amazing tracks, and while it came out early in the year I only was able to get it from Kevin a month ago. Their sound is incredibly unique and crazy good. Also, it's about Lord of the Flies- which officially makes it my favorite thing about Lord of the Flies.
3. Pompeii- Gatsby's American Dream
Once again another song from Volcano- this one is about the obvious. Again the sound is so different from the other stuff I've heard, and I listen to a lot of stuff.
4. Light Years- Jamiroquai
I'm into really obscure Jamiroquai songs- read Black Capricorn Day, Black Devil Car, and this song. I'm not into most of the stuff that they put out. In fact, I was nearly positive that I had found all their good songs (of which there are 5) several months ago. However, this song was randomly on the CUA radio station playlist one day, and I liked to so much I actually bought the damn thing. That is a rarity. In any case, sometimes this band can "bring the funk." This song is one of those times
5. Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is- Jet
This is one of Jet's new singles. Ok, they aren't exactly innovative, but holy crap they know how to make a good rock song. Get Born was sweet as hell, this New CD, from what I've heard, is on par. On some tracks they seem to be replacing their archetype from AC/DC to Oasis, but not this one.
6. Bright Lights- Carbon Leaf
Their new album, Love. Loss. Hope. Repeat. was a huge dissapointment in everyway. I hate their new direction, I hate the singles, I hate the lack of them showing their muscial abilities. However, this song grows on you. And after a while, I think I'll appreciate it- kinda like a really good fuck buddy.
On that note, I have 30 pages to write in the next 18 hours. Yeah, it sucks.
