i am completely convinced that you make a decision, if you want to call it that, every infinitesimal increment of time, and that every one changes the course of your existence. And I don't just mean 'you' in the sense of you as in your body and individual mind. I mean that the world, and the universe, are subject to the aggregate whims of their constituents, who are present of their own volition. Thus, the course the universe takes is dependent on what you are thinking and doing. And your simple agreement to continue to exist in the realm of reality in which you reside reinforces the developments in the lives of people you know and the world as a whole.
if you don't believe that you have a profound effect on the world (we'll leave the argument concerning the universe for another day--there is a logical explanation, but you should probably just ask me rather than trying to understand a written version), consider this: the backstreet boys became popular. is their music 'good' in any discernable way? not really. do many people absoltely loathe them? yes. but a single schmuck greenlighted their album, and then the most popular girl in school decided to set a trend locally. trends spread via television, in a music video produced by a few people, and pretty soon everyone knew who the backstreet boys were. and every so slightly, or maybe more significantly than you might think, the male body image, the public perception of acceptable musical styles, and the way people interact all changed. because of four mildly talented young men and a greasy, risk-taking producer.
every negative thought you have affects you and those around you through an unimaginably large network of people. just imagine what negative actions do.
