Rita and I went to see the kitties last night. They were much healthier than when we first saw them and remarkably playful. There was much tackling and skidding across the tile floor for all four of them. We've picked out our favorite who we're taking home for sure, he's all gray and fluffy, playful but still into cuddling. Then there are two others that we're going to let Viggo make the decision on. Doesn't that just sound like a lovely adventure? Three kittens and a 50lb pound dog, in one examination room, getting to know each other. Let me reassure you all that Viggo does in fact like cats and at the kittens tender age I think they can be brainwashed into thinking they like dogs.
So after watching a 1/2 hour of kitty acrobatics we picked up some pizza and came home to watch 4400, setup the wifi and discuss potential names. After scouring our bookshelves and dvd's we came up with names for all four of the kittens. The lovely gray is going to be Alastair (after the poet Alastair Reid, who wrote my favorite poem Curiosity). The rambunctious, gangly, black male is going to be Pharoah (he definitely thinks he's the head honcho and his face is triangular and more siamese or egyptian cat looking). The tabby female will be Selene (we had the hardest time coming up with a decent female name - after an hour Rita was looking at DVD boxes and saw Kate Beckinsale in Underworld and a decision was made). And in a roundabout way we also named the only kitten we have no interest in taking home - Milo (it was one of my suggestions for Alastair).
Kitty fever is in full bloom and I can't wait till next week when the adoption vet should pronounce them healthy enough to come home!
In other news I was confidential told today that things are still shaking up around here and I stand a good chance of getting a permanent position - so keep your fingers crossed!
