It's quite a nice day, though I haven't really done anything. I am finding that it really is true that the busier you are the more productive you are. If there isn't a line of things waiting for me I feel no need to really tackle the project at hand and move on, so I just putz around and meander my way through the day.
Last week I was covering for one of the admins, Ms. F, while she was out on vacation and supporting one of the partners and his two associates. I miss that. Things were constantly changing and adjusting. I'd wrap everything up and be waiting to hear from some people and then suddenly everyone would get back to me and there would be 15 things to do all at once. It was a very dynamic work day. That was cool. I hope that eventually I'll get a permanent position here as an admin to one of the partners, but I still have a while to wait and see. I'm getting sick of the instability of temping.
Yesterday my car was at the mechanics getting maintenance stuff done - and as it always happens there was something broken, which had to be fixed. By the time I walked out of there it cost $550. Geesh. Fortunately since Rita moved in this month I have money available to pay for that, but still. I was telling my girl Lety (from another temp gig) that this is one of the suckiest things about being an adult. You have a paycheck coming in regularly, but every time you get a little bit of extra money to do something fun... BOOOM! something else breaks (her air-conditioning, my car) and all your mad money goes to pay for necessities. Even my birthday and Christmas money the last couple of years has gone to stuff like that. I'd save it thinking I'd find some neat little something or other later and I'd just end up using it on stupid practical shit. (Raise your hand if you miss having an allowance to spend on candy or toys!) Of course that's exactly why financial planners suggest that you have an easy-access savings account with 3 or 4 months of expenses in it. I'm working on setting that up and paying off my credit cards - chipping away a little bit every month - it's a long process.
In other news. Jen's husband Sebastian has finally been approved for his Visa, so they'll be moving to Tampa very soon. I can't wait. I probably won't be able to go see her for a while, but we'll be able to talk a lot more on the phone now that it's not international and she's going to come see her mom before too long! Woohoo!
One more thing. I saw this pod on
Current, about Shephard Fairey, an artist who uses Propoganda images and pop culture to get people thinking and
challenge the status quo. You've probably seen his stuff before as part of the Obey Giant Sticker Campaign. I loved what I saw in the pod and it turns out he also does
clothes with his images on them. Some of these shirts are freakin' sweet. I'm going to have to make a wish list for all the ones I want to buy. It's a shame I can't wear any of them to work.
