I am taking part in a new weekly meme called “It’s Monday! What Are You Reading This Week?” It isis a weekly event hosted by
J. Kaye’s Book Blog, to discuss what we are reading for this week as well as books completed the previous week.
I’m currently reading Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception by
Maggie Stiefvater which I borrowed from my friend
Rebekah.
I am on a major fairy/faerie kick at the moment, probably because I am all excited about my NaNo project, as well as my friend’s.
1 Plus I have been hearing so many good things about Shiver I decided that, since I couldn’t get my hands on it just yet, I’d borrow the Stiefvater book that was available for me to read.
The other book I am hoping to read this is Midnight Never Come by Marie Brennan, just to continue my fairy kick. I think fairies are going to be my new vice, although it will be a long time before my fairy collection exceeds my
vampire collection or my (sadly incomplete) Tamora Pierce collection.
Books I’ve Read This Week
Jessica’s Guide To Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantanskey: Jessica’s Guide… was a definite fun read that, despite the initial lightness and humour of the premise and early chapters, did not fail when dealing with the darker issues at play. I meant to only read a little before bed as I was sick - I failed. I ended up going to bed at 1.30am, having finished the novel.
Knife by R.J. Anderson: Was not expecting the story that developed out of it. I knew a few vague things about the initial set-up, but for some reason thought the target audience would be much younger. That’ll teach me to under-estimate tiny fairies! I actually read the majority of this book sitting on my elderly Nana’s bed while she read her crime novel (one of many). She liked the cover, the way it shined in the first real sunny day for ages.
The Princess Bride by William Goldman: I am a big fan of the movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Although I think that this might be one case where I prefer the movie
2 I still loved the book to pieces. When I re-watched the movie the morning after finishing it, I was delighted to find a new layer to things - I had never noticed Fezzik’s comment about rhymes, for instance.
So that is my very first entry in the “It’s Monday! What Are You Reading This Week?” What are you reading this week?
- I’m writing a Victorian era story involved a rogue Unseelie obssessed with the daughter of the local Laird. Rebekah is writing a murder-mystery set in a 1920s London filled with the supernatural [ ↩]
- This is quite possibly due to the book’s lack of Cary Elwes [ ↩]
