Current TV is making me feel mostly empty. But this may be the week I start talking about TV again. Just because.
So spoilers straight ahead. And as usual, shallow thoughts abound. Sorry that's all I've got nowadays. Or has that been always?
Friday Night Lights: I resisted the eye-rolling. Some of these plotlines are making me feel mostly blah.

Because it's so bad, it's....no, that doesn't even work. Moonlight is dire and there is no getting around it. Yet, strangely popular. I think there's a paper in it. I am enduring, but largely to mock.
I still haven't started the third season of Supernatural yet. Is it getting good? I sort of fell out of like with it in the second season because I got bored with all the "I love you, brother" stuff but the buzz seems to be different this year.
Dirty Sexy Money: I must certainly have a thing for old folgies. Donald Sutherland = loooooooooooove. Drunk on tequila, fumbling and giddy Donald Sutherland = cuuuuuute. Me = Stuuuuuupid. Wait, why was Nick so wishy-washy in this episode?
I've finally given up on Dirty, Sexy Money. It's not because I really love Life, which I totally do, but for me competing time slots is not an issue. It's because of Nick who I've found to be increasingly wishy-washy and ill-defined. I haven't been a fan of Donald Sutherland since Klute, a postion not helped by reading Joss Whedon's account of him during the filming of the Buffy movie. I did start enjoying the show though, but once Nick stopped being an effective anti-Darling, there wasn't much to keep me interested. I also hate Karen, so finding out that the next episode to get featured her heavily made the decision to give up easy for me.
On Pushing Daisies, I also like Chuck and don't get the hate. I put it down to the usual "pretty girl getting close to a hot guy" antipathy. There's things to nitpick? Really? I love the look and the colours of the show, I love the fairy narration, I love the thwarted love. I love everything about it except for the fact that I can't really re-watch because it's too sweet.
I'm clearly biased about KB, but I love Elle on Heroes, boobs and all. It's a good sign to me that the writers are exploring the different effects of having powers on different people as plot can't sustain everything and this is a move to a deeper look at characters. I was listening to the most recent TV Guide podcast and was surprised to hear both Michael Ausiello and Maitland McDonagh say that the character didn't work for them. The latter was a source of disappointment, as she's someone whose views I take seriously. In the case of MA, it means nothing as he bends with what he thinks is the trendy view and right now that's that the show has too many new characters.
Dexter: The freakishness that is Lila totally works for me.
Yes, yes, yes. For all the bitching about Lila, I think the character has been a terrific addition to the show and really shaken things up.
One awesomely awesome show sorta makes up for mediocre TV season.
I agree that Dexter is the best show on television right now but the fact that I have to live that hour on tenterhooks makes it wearying. This is why I'm getting more enjoyment from Life which, for me, has many of the qualities about it that made me love Veronica Mars. And, of course, what would be life without a ratings-challenged quality show in it?

ML: With Beth not taking center stage in Mick's life, I think it's starting to get a little better. This week's ep was a bit of a Beth overload with her horrendous VOs. I cannot stomach a lot of the vampire logistics in this show, but it has some engaging moments. Is it just me, or do you feel somewhat dirty for watching this show? It's inexplicable.
SPN: They've had their share of dull as wood moments, but the last few eps have turned it around. They do well when the stories don't focus too much on the mythologies and just showcase the Winchester banter or relevant characters in peril.
DSM: It's my purely soapy guilty pleasure show. I don't know much about Donald Sutherland outside his roles, but he's always had such a commanding presence for me. And I love that he's just playing around and having fun with the role. Considering the positive reviews I've been hearing about Life, I'm prepared to give it a full shot once the other shows go on hiatus.
PD: Although I love it and watch it much glee, the high saccharine dosage does keep you from rewatching it. I understand why it won't float well with other people though. But I'm completely sold on the fairy tellesque allure of this show. Lee Pace's take on Chuck and Ned is just piping hot. He totally gets it (as displayed in his interviews), delivers it and I can't help but gobble up whatever he's serving. To be honest, I'm really taken in by them all.
Heroes: I wish I could fairly assess Elle without my KB glasses too, because she's been such a fascinating addition to the cast. I can sort of see where people are griping about KB, but I think a lot of things are stunting them from fully absorbing and enjoying this character. Boo. Let's see what the TVGuide podcast says about Elle after "Cautionary Tale." Hah!
For all the bitching about Lila, I think the character has been a terrific addition to the show and really shaken things up.
So true. Man, I'm very much with you on this. Way to shake things up without letting the viewers down with usual one-dimensional characters and plotlines, right? My nerves are stretched to no end and am constantly left with my jaw down to the ground, which I totally love that about Dexter. However, I do miss wanting to unravel everything about a show like I did with VM. Nowadays, I'm simply resigned to sit back and passively watch TV, without the urge to sink my teeth in it. *sigh*
