Bringing a writer friend to Conflikt

Fun things to do aside from music for the holidays...
One of my fun things to do this season has been coming up with good SF-looking seasonal beverages. So far my favorite one has been a spicy thing you can add to coffee, tea or hot cider to make *everything* more interesting. Totally had a wonderful time leading filk at a small con in 2017 and got back into it at Westercon 2018 playing with some awesome filker musicians, so I guess that's the dandelion aspect we all used to wear on our buttons :-)

Not Needed in Filk
It's been a few years since I tried to write for other people to listen; I stupidly entered a filk contest at a con dedicated to filking, wrote what I thought was a funny song about Persephone, using all of the words assigned by the judges, and was completely ignored. Necronomicon Coming Up: Oct 2 Tampa
Seriously fancy hotel alert. This year, Necro is being held at Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay. Since most of what I want to do is not in my hotel room at a con, as in "stay up singing until my eyeballs bleed," the impressive price and amenities of this particular hotel are somewhat wasted on me... but the need to support the con by renting a room is clear. Filking at OASIS
Met a slew of delightful filkers at OASIS 26, attended talks (incl. Seanan McGuire, who mentioned Vixy many times with great affection and respect) and wandered around the dealer room; even bought a couple of books and CDs. One sees almost all filkers with computers, these days, rather than the old huge binders... in some ways that's an improvement ( Read more... ) -
Happy Independence Day, Americans, and ohh, ohh, funny...
It's the 4th of July. But we're in the Bahamas, so we don't get to blow stuff up in entertaining and colorful displays until the 7th. Wah. Now for the funny. We missed the Avengers movie that came out this summer (not a lot of movie theaters in the islands far from Nassau). Gulf Coast, white sand, stopped until mid-October due to family needs
We are in Pensacola, doing various boat maintenance things and waiting for my father's estate documents to get settled. We expect to be in Bradenton/Sarasota in early November and Key West in late November and early December, from whence there will be at least one conference trip (hence the longish stopover).
