Filking at OASIS

Met a slew of delightful filkers at OASIS 26, attended talks (incl. Seanan McGuire, who mentioned Vixy many times with great affection and respect) and wandered around the dealer room; even bought a couple of books and CDs. One sees almost all filkers with computers, these days, rather than the old huge binders... in some ways that's an improvement, but one fellow with a delightful singing voice (Perry, you know who you are!) had two different laptops along, which apparently had different songs organized by date-then-subject, so there was still casting around for the tune-in-question to be seen, slightly higher-tech than the castings of old. Also, there were not nearly so many instrument players in the filk as one used to see. Makes me want to pick up one of those "things with strings," if only to be able to accompany great filks which totally deserve it!

Speaking of Vixy, I did "Mal's Song" in a kind of invocation, hoping to get Seanan to show up after her concert, and people were wonderful and joined in on the chorus, making it sound like an anthem. Although several folk did wander in at that point, none of Seanan's people did; they went in search of sustenance and then came back through en route to bed, picking up keyboard/amp/speakers (or some such gear) left in the room after the concert.
