Episode 2.14 - "Premature Burial"

Mar 17, 2006 16:18

How come everytime I come back to Pasadena, the town looks like it's gone to HELL? Really, I've only been away for 8 weeks yet so many things have changed around here. John, a family friend (of 18 years) and the owner of John's General Store, died of some lung disease... not a huge shock considering everybody in that store smokes at least 2 packs a day.

And as we sadly see EVERY year, two seniors from Chesapeake died in a car accident; they were drinking and speeding when they ran into a telephone pole splitting the car in two. Unfortunately, there was a girl in the car who survived... she's in critical condition. They were so close to graduating, but as I said before, this happens with every class. With us it was Jamahl and Chris, the year before it was Elizabeth, and so on and so on...

Many of the local businesses that have been here since '92 have disappeared or are in the process of being bought out. The latest victim is America's Best, where one of the employees (crazy Joy) gripes to Mama and me about the new computer system and the lack of resources now that they've been bought out by a different company.

And lastly, the most depressing news by far... Jiselle's not gonna be a mommy. It turns out, she really was pregnant (even with the lack of sex), told my Mama, got used to the idea of having a child, but today all of that is taken away. Early this afternoon, my Mama rushes Jiselle to the hospital because of her extreme neck and back pain. I get a phone call and I realize where my sunny disposition comes from:
Mama: Hey, baby. How are you?
James: I'm fine. You?
Mama: I'm OK. I just had to rush your sister to the hospital.
James: Oh no.
Mama: Yeah, she lost the baby. The doctor said the tests don't look too good. *sigh* But it's alright. She's feeling good. Would you like to go to Blockbuster later?

LOL, oh my god, now I realize where I got that habit from--you know, covering up my real feelings by shaking it off and being extra pleasant. Strange. Oh well, I'm not too disappointed that I'm not gonna be an uncle by December... I just hope my sister's feeling OK mentally after having something die inside of her. It's gotta be a heartbreaking experience--I'd better call her later.

Bye, y'all. Hopefully, your day'll be better than mine.
