It was late by the time they got to a hotel, and Sam was asleep the moment his head hit the pillow. Dean watched Cas sneak over to the end of Sam's bed, folding the sweater that he had carelessly thrown to the floor. He pressed the button on the front of television on his way back across the room, shutting it off, casting the room in darkness. A harsh red light was thrown across Dean's bed, a reflection of the neon sign in the parking lot.

Castiel settled himself into the chair near the door, only a foot or two away from Dean's bedside. They looked between each other for a moment, casting glances around the room, both unsure of how to pass the time.

"Dean," Castiel kept his voice low, "you should sleep."

Dean sighed deeply, knowing that the angel was right. "What are you going to do?"

Cas looked down at his hands, resting in his lap. "I will remain here until you awaken."

Dean rolled his eyes. "Do you even know how creepy that is?" A smile tugged at his lips as Castiel looked confused, clearly unaware.

"Lay with me." Dean's request was more of a demand as he shuffled to the edge of the bed, making room for Castiel. Cas looked at the bed hesitantly, unmoving for a long moment. Dean raised his eyebrows, clearly losing patience. Cas didn't bother taking off his shoes before climbing into the bed, but Dean didn't mind. He couldn't remember the last time he hadn't slept with his shoes on. The bed turned out to be just barely big enough for the two of them, but there was enough room to be comfortable. Dean knew that Castiel had no concept of personal space anyway, and although he himself certainly did, he wasn't about to complain.

Sharing a bed turned out to be not really so bad. They spoke quietly, occasionally, and Dean slept better than ever. If Dean was honest with himself, though, Sam's twisted and horrified expression in the morning was probably the best part of it. Eventually, it became a common occurrence. Dean didn't have to suggest it, Cas didn't have to ask, and Sam didn't have to worry. It was just the way things were.

They shared a bed for weeks, and it got to the point where Sam was more shocked when they didn't.

Dean was already sleeping deeply by the time Cas decided to slide into bed with him the last time. Castiel took every precaution to move slowly and carefully, trying desperately not to wake the sleeping Winchester. But, Dean always slept with his alert levels on high, and snapped awake the second Cas touched the bed.

"I apologize." Castiel offered, pulling the blanket up over himself.

"S'okay" Dean mumbled, mostly to the pillow.

Castiel stayed tense in the bed, afraid to move again, and Dean could sense it. He threw his arm out to the side, tangling his fingers in Castiel's shirt, pulling his body down until he was content that Cas was laying comfortably. The action itself was nothing beyond ordinary. It was the aftermath of it that had them both shaken.

Dean left his hand on Castiel's chest, and Cas was aware that his heartbeat had quickened. Dean, too, was aware of this, feeling it under his fingers, sure that no heart had ever beaten faster. With the exception of his own now. The realization made his breath hitch, and Cas heard it. The sound made Castiel bite his lip, and Dean saw it. The tension made Cas blush deeply, and Dean knew that he wanted to feel it. He lifted his hand off of the angel's chest, placing it softly against his cheek. The skin under his fingertips was warm and flushed, and Dean shifted their bodies closer. Their eyes had locked together long ago, and hadn't left each other since.

Castiel felt himself become overwhelmed by emotions he had never experienced. He let out a soft whimper, and Dean swallowed hard, feeling something wash over him too.

They moved together at a painfully slow pace, Dean making sure that they both had time to think it through, to pull away if they wanted to. But, it never happened. Their lips met softly in a kiss that was almost chaste. Almost, but not quite. There was a year of pent up desire behind the connection, and Dean could feel himself breaking, unable to hold it back. He pushed at Cas lightly, rolling on top of him, careful not to break the kiss. Castiel moaned softly, letting Dean's body envelop his.

Castiel let his hands roam over Dean's back, allowing his fingers to slip up under his shirt, feeling heated skin. Dean pushed down against him, clearly approving of the touch. He moved away from Castiel's lips, letting his kisses trail down the angel's neck, stopping to bite softly at his pulse. Castiel let a moan, louder now, and pushed forcefully up against Dean's body.

Dean grinned, covering Castiel's mouth with his hand. And just like that, the moment was over. Dean rolled off of Cas, letting himself fall heavily to the matress. They both struggled to catch their breath and get their body temperatures somewhere near normal. Dean was still smiling as he realized that he couldn't imagine a more perfect first kiss. He pulled Cas over to him as he also realized that there could be no one more perfect to share the moment with.

Sam was the first to wake up in the morning, and was shocked frozen by the sight he opened his eyes to. Castiel was laying half on top of Dean, head leaning against his shoulder. Dean's arms were wrapped around Cas, holding him close. After the initial shock wore off, Sam couldn't hold back his grin. Finally.
