I posted a pic of my ornamental kale back in July, amazed that it's doing so well in the summer. And here we are, a month later, after a two week heat wave, and it's still going strong!

Kale is a cool weather plant, and I bought some last fall. Most of them lasted until early spring. But I've never had one that's survived the summer! This is an ornamental kale, and it seems to be enjoying the hot weather. :)

This tiny bird likes to visit my balcony, and nibble on the kale flowers. It's a little hard to see, but the bird is on the upper left side of the pic.

I enjoy watching him sing and eat. :)

Early spring means that it's time for kale flowers! :) Ornamental kale is a very hardy plant, and it usually survives all winter into spring. This year, my kale plants have done really well, and there's so many buds starting to bloom. Also, it's interesting to watch them turn from dark purple in winter to green in spring.
