Outside the Hotel--Neptune, CA

Aug 17, 2008 12:49

Sam kept checking her watch as she paced by the swoop bike. She couldn't help it--after the disaster that was yesterday, she wasn't completely positive whether she'd be making the trip back to Boulder alone or not. She hadn't been surprised when he hadn't returned to the room but hoped he hadn't done anything stupid the night before after he'd ( Read more... )

Neptune hadn't changed all that much and Cameron had wandered, just trying to clear his head and figure out what he had been doing.

He managed to pull himself out of his thoughts eventually and he made his way back to the hotel, wondering if Sam would have left without him by now. He was surprised to still find her there and with his hands stuffed in his pocket and looking just a little bit scruffy, he made his way over. "Hey."

"Hey." Good, he seemed like he was still uninjured and she didn't see any blood or bruises. "Ready to go?"

"Yeah," he nodded. Sort of. He was frowning. "I'm sorry I kept you waiting."

"It's okay," she said, reaching for her helmet. Normalcy could be achieved. "Not like we had anything pressing to do today, right?"

"Right," he said, a bit confused by the normalcy thing. "Think we can stop for a bit later? I'm hungry."

"Sure. Anywhere in particular?"

"Something with a view," he suggested as he moved closer to the bike and grabbed his helmet.

"Too bad we can't just pull up to a drive-through and eat on the way," she teased, settling the helmet on her head and swinging her leg over so she could drive. Not that she felt the combined needs for speed and control or anything. "View doesn't get much better than that. Water view or mountain view?"

"Mountain," he decided, having seen enough ocean for now and he settled behind her, hesitating only a second before he wrapped his arms around her waist. "Ready."

If Sam stiffened slightly as she felt Cameron's arms around her waist, well, she'd just pretend it didn't happen and ignore all the implications. It felt almost familiar. "Hang on," she shouted as she started the engines, then engaged the cloaking device.

They rode for a while before they finally stopped to pick up food and a bit later they find somewhere off the road to stop and eat. It was far enough away for anyone to see them and ask questions about the strange bike.

Cameron found himself a spot at the base of a tree as he pulled open his bag of donuts and started to eat. "So no headache?"

Sam shook her head as she took a bite of fruit salad. The idea of grease just hadn't appealed to her today for some reason. "No. You?"

"Bit," he admitted, it didn't stop him from eating his donut. "You okay?"

"Sure," she shrugged. Asking why she wouldn't be would just be asking for trouble. "I think I've had enough of weddings for a while."

"Sorry," he said, taking that last comment entirely differently than it was probably meant.
