From all these trees -
in salads, soups, everywhere -
cherry blossoms fall
--Basho
The cool spring has caused the cherry tree beside Tsuzuki's pond to blossom a bit later than usual, but he's laid out a picnic lunch, with fresh chicken salad, cherry lemonade and a cherry cheesecake. He's stretched out on a pink and white silk quilt in the shade of the tree, looking up into the branches overhead, a book of poetry within arm's reach.
He's pensive: the blossoms already starting to shed their petals put him in mind of the people who have left, the things they left unfinished: Jaenelle's disappearance has left him without someone to aid him in finding a way to unlock the shadowy side of his nature, and there are times when he still misses Hisoka. But Tatsumi has found a way back to this world, and he (Tsuzuki) has an important task now: building up the Shadow Angels and seeing to the defense of the Mansion.
Still, he can't help thinking that having that other half of himself unlocked might help him to be more useful in fending off any further incursions from Morgoth. Or it could make him more vulnerable, it's hard to say.
In the meantime, he's going to enjoy this quiet place and moment, this patch of spring.
A petal drifts down and lands on the surface of his slice of cheesecake...
Title nicked from e.e. cummings (Western and Eastern poems in the same post...); open to friends and passersby: he's happy for the company.
