[Sometime This Week...] Glad I Did That Again...

May 12, 2013 14:21

A warm spring morning, with a hint of rain in the air, though for now, the sunlight streams in through the windows of the clinic. A day full of life, a good day for a child to be born.

"Ow! You store that needle in the fridge?" Jack snaps, glaring over his shoulder at Muraki, as the physician injects the anesthetic into his spine.

"I'm surprised you're howling at the cold, since this needle is penetrating your spinal canal," Muraki observes.

"You been through as much as I have, you learn to deal with a little pain," Jack says. Then with a nervous grin, he adds, "Don't mind it, in fact, given the right settings, and with the right safeguards."

"Flirting with me on the operating table, and I'm about to deliver your unborn child," Muraki says, tsking behind his surgical mask before removing the syringe and taping up the mark then carefully helping the patient onto his back and pulling the surgical drapes over Jack.

"Maybe it's a good sign, that my interest in certain activity is coming back," Jack replies, with a smirk, but the way his pale eyes tick about belie this.

"I think, rather, it's merely a sign that you're nervous, Mister Harkness," Muraki says, setting to work rigging up a scrim across the surgical table. "Just lay back and rest: twenty minutes from now, you'll be holding your child."

"That'll be the longest twenty minutes I'll have ever lived," Jack notes. Then with a look of amused horror, he adds, "And that's saying a lot, given how long I've lived..."

So, looking for a Mia for the first thread (warning in advance for some medical stuff therein), while subsequent threads will take place over the next several days as our boy recovers from the necessary surgery. And yes, I'm welcoming Mother's Day-related teasing.
