Nightmare Night nearly turned into a disaster, with Luna offended, mistaking the comical fear of the ponies for real distrust, but friendship had worked its magic and the night was saved. Another lesson learned, and she had a letter to write to Princess Celestia about her discoveries. In her haste to get started, she'd left her Star Swirl the Bearded costume on, or at least the hat and the cape: the beard got in the way of her quill as she directed it to write the letter.
"There, all set," Twilight Sparkle said, commanding the scroll to roll up. "Ready to send this, Spike?" she asked, turning to her dragon companion.
Spike lay in a sugar coma, flopped on the rug beside Twilight's desk, one paw flopped on his swollen tummy.
"Well, I guess Princess Celestia can wait till tomorrow, when it's bright and sunny and the darkness has blown away," she said, setting the scroll back on the desk. She scooped up Spike onto her back and carried him up to their room, setting him on his little bed and whisking his blankets over him. Then she sent her hat to perch on its stand before ordering her cloak to hang up on a hook on the wall.
The sky is at its darkest as she crawls between her blankets, curling up on her bed and settling her head and horn on the pillows. Day isn't far off and Celestia will raise the sun. She closes her eyes, smiling to herself as she thinks back on a night well-spent...
But morning comes soon enough, and well after the raising of the sun, she stirs under her covers, awakening and stretching her hooves. Time to get Spike up, if he'd slept off those goodies he'd gobbled, and send that message.
Spike's bed is empty, though; thinking he'd gone down to fetch some breakfast, Twilight hops out of bed, opening the door and stepping out to clatter down the wide spiral staircase leading to the ground floor of the library.
...Only to step out into an unfamiliar hallway. "Spike? Are you here? Wherever or whatever ...'here' is?" she calls out.
She steps out, looking around at the strange surroundings: there's magic here, but nothing she's ever felt before...
