[Mingler] "Take care of yourselves and wear your disguises For they will be haunting this night"

It's Halloween, the darkest night of all dark nights, a night when the veil between the spirit world and the physical world lifts, the night when it's best to wear one's disguises, to hide from whatever might be creeping through that open portal. Outside, the full moon rides over the skeletal tree tops, vanishing at times when small clouds scud across its face and a cold wind sends the fallen leaves skittering over the lawns and Tsuzuki's display of jack o'lanterns and orange lights, creating sounds like ghosts walking in the shadows beneath the trees and bushes.

The house itself has gotten into the spirit of the season: the decor of the bottom floor has taken on a darker, gothic look, giving it the air of a mansion where a coven of vampires or enchanters and enchantresses might gather, and artful cobwebs festoon the walls and the upper portions of doorways and arches. Candlelight flickers in each room, casting deep shadows in the corners of the rooms and behind the furniture, and a row of tall candelabra range up the hallway leading to the ballroom, where elegant yet creepy and slightly out of kilter waltzes can be heard playing.

Here, the room has been divided by a large black velvet curtain, itself bisected by a portiere. One half of the room is lit with soft, orange-gold light, and the room has the air of an autumnal forest by day, soft sunlight slanting through golden foliage. The floor even seems to have the dappled look of filtered light on carpets of fallen leaves. Here people can savor the fading season and the elegant spread of delicacies in a refined environment.

But if one steps through the portiere, the setting changes: the room is lit with a harsh red light and the decor has a darker, heavier feeling to it, like a chamber of shadows in a medieval locale depicted by one Edgar Allen Poe. The floor even looks stone-like, though it's still smooth enough to dance upon. It caters well to those who like a darker, scarier atmosphere.

It might not just be atmosphere, though: there is one dim-lit alcove containing a single red velvet love seat, where the air of darkness seems to have pooled and grown tangible. If someone should stray into it, whilst wearing one's disguise, they might suddenly find that the costume has turned suddenly real. Dressed as a ghost? You're floating about the ceiling and drifting through walls. Dressed as a vampire? You seek the blood of the hapless abroad this night. Dressed as a pirate? Avast, matey, there be wenches to woo.
The house seems to take its tricks as seriously as it does its treats...

Title nicked from "Halloween" by The Wolfe Tones. Happy Halloween! For the folk who stray into the dim-lit alcove of transformations, the effects of those transformations will last till sunrise (when the ghoulies and ghosties must depart), or someone with magical skill can intervene somehow. 'Tis up to the player to choose...

Also! Have a soundtrack for ye Halloween festivities as well! Feel free to PM any requests/additions to ye list to Ref or one of her many pups.
