I hate sport and I don't like the way the media takes everything and shoves it to the side while these events are on.
But I am going to mildly as I can with this attitude to support a team or two. Why? Well it would be very difficult to avoid it and instead of wasting energy doing that I will give in and treat it like an experiment. Well it is, if I'm going to do it.
One friend on lj supports a team because it is similar to her sons name. Another IRL friend supports Italy because she likes their hairstyles and their team uniforms. I shall be almost as shallow in my choices.
The first and foremost will be South Africa.
The reason why is, I have been an active part of the Anti-Aparthied movement in the 80's, to the point of putting myself in risk of being arrested on many occasions. At the time I never for a moment thought we'd win. Never thought that black rule could happen or that it could be done peacefully. But I had to speak for against a huge injustice.
The other smaller reason is that Africa will benefit greatly by the whole hosting the footy thing. They deserve a bit of good fortune.
Secondly: England.
Now I know some people will be suprised at this. Some will question why a Welsh person or any Celt would support them. Well if we really hated England do you really think any of us would live here? The only time us Celts get angry with English people is when they dissort our history or belittle us in some way, often acccidently, sometimes because it is easy to wind us up. ( we are passionate little blighters!)
Others will be suprised as to why I'm supporting England secondly. That I can't explain, why they are suprised I mean. lol
However I won't be making any posts about the footy here. I'm just not passionate about it enough.
