So this is as much as I can remember of day 2 in Seoul, South Korea :D Please be nice to me, ha ha.
The second day we woke up, well I was woken up by my friend since i love my sleep so much ha ha. We went down for breakfast and I had a few slices of toast to help me through the few hours of the day without my brain really functioning. I admit, I'm a bit of a zombie in the morning. We didn't have any set plans for our stay in Korea, rather we knew where we wanted to go but not when we wanted to go. For this day it was just a slow day, a friend of mine contacted me to meet up and it was a "Hey, why not? We don't have anything planned."
We decided to go to the palaces which were nearby, our guide books had shown that it would be open however as soon as we got to the station, the underground had a sign showing the sign of open and close times... unfortunately it was closed. Yes, it was closed. It was really unbelievable. It was still a pretty sight with the heavy clouds waiting to rain and the heat. We decided to go to the museum which was next to the palaces.
We went to Myeondeong and it was raining so we stayed in the underground for a bit, it was fun and busy with so much "cheap" goods and stylish gifts. There are many Kpop shops and Kpop related good shops and general souvenirs and clothes shops. Admittedly Myeondeong is more expensive shopping area compared to other markets that we visited such as Nandaemun and Dondaemun. It is cheaper to buy Kpop CDs from but also you got to know how to compare, some stores sell the same cds with maybe a 1,000 won difference or they sell the Kpop related goods at a different rate. A few thousand won might not seem a big difference but if you didn't bring a lot of cash then it does make that difference. And this was as close as I got to Kpop idols. Guess there is no fate for me and Kpop. Ah well it doesn't make up the rest of my music.
After shopping for a bit then we decided to risk the rain and see what was outside the station, I had taken my rain jacket with me abroad so I was prepared for the rain ha ha. When we left the station, I got some glances and looks, well my rain jacket does cover me until the end of my shorts, so it was like a one piece outfit which was rain proof ha ha. Or it was the fact that I was prepared :D We walked through and were tempted by the shop sellers. They offer free masks and when you accept it they then pull you into the shop to continue shopping and you will probably end up spending more money ha ha.
Then lunch! Yay! It was quiet that day and we sat in the corner, they had the buzzer on the table to call the waiter/waitress over. We didn't use that since it was, I dunno, we just didn't. Thank goodness the menu had some English and pictures to go along with it or else I'm not quite sure how we would have ordered.
Myeondeong exit 6 is to the main shopping area. The restaurant I went to, well it's not a restaurant I guess but you can find decently priced good food. It was one of the three restaurants which are next to each other. The right restaurant is a chicken shop and the left is a grill and seafood.
In the late afternoon we went to tackle Namsan tower, we didn't have dinner so I wasn't feeling the greatest and I was going with someone who don't like to eat. I just need regular meals not a pigout fest, meals at normal times. We walked towards Namsan tower with a friend who was in Korea at the time, admittedly he got a bit lost as well. We had to ask, or he did since he can speak Korean but we were on the right track. We walked and walked, it's pretty much just continuously going uphill, our hostel is on a hill and it's close to Namsan tower. We walked up and walk up, walked past a map which showed that Namsan tower was very close to where we were on the path. Ha~ It was very far from where we were. It was an aswesome experience, I thought it was going to be rocky but it was pure steps all the way. I had to take a breather more than once because well I'm not the fittest person in the world and after flying I have the weakest legs for the first few days. I'm guessing the blood flow and what not. It's nice to walk up the path ^^
Going up the Namsan path gave an awesome view of Seoul and it was very fun struggling with friends. We stopped near the top and there was this group of Korean friends who were also struggling, one guy sat down on the steps and his friends paused for a while before running up the steps. They left us pretty much behind on the steps but it was funny to see since the guy who was sitting down was not happy that he didn't get a long rest. Ha ha.
We didn't go to the top of Namsan tower since there was a queue for the top but there was the deck and the locks which gave a very nice view of Seoul. Everywhere was pretty much couples which made the trip up a little... sad? It would have been nice to go there with a partner, to enjoy the view and relax in the cafe at Namsan tower. There was a recording for a dram at the top, a crowd had gathered and it was quite amusing to their reactions, they gasped and awed when the lead hugged the girl and the girl pushed him away. Typical drama moment. The locks were cute decorations, lock trees and lock walls.
We had dinner nearby, well we still had to take the underground to the nearby station. We managed to get to the restuarant and were the last customers admitted. Other customers tried to come in but they were asked to leave. Soju in Korea is unbelievably cheap but London a lot of things are at inflated rate. In the store it costs about 1,200 won and in the restaurant its about 5,000 won+.
Okay, haha end.
