Loved the pilot, so thrilled to have a short series of 'young Morse' starring Shaun Evans and Roger Allam for Sunday evenings.

Think this period cop show (1960s) much more watchable than present day Lewis which has really run its course. I used to joke that we'd be watching 'Hathaway' soon, but going back to the origins is a much better idea... although in the very watchable and cleverly plotted episode last night there was possibly too much unnecessary homage to Sherlock Holmes style of observation, which was fun but maybe not really Morse's way. :-))

Shaun Evans, who promoted the new series on BBC Breakfast one morning last week, claims not to be copying the late John Thaw's for his portrayal of the detective in his lowly DC days, but nevertheless does seem to fit himself to the part to perfection. Roger Allam as the older mentor, DI Fred Thursday, is excellent. Fun to see younger versions of other characters from the original also, such as Jim Strange.
