It was surreal all over again.

Soldier Blue was walking in a sea of unfettered thought and feeling so dense it would suffocate if it were tangible. It was overwhelming to start, manageable at most times, but all too easy to get lost in. Was that what it was like before Superior Domination? Were humans the same there as they were in the City? It was impossible to be certain. He couldn't go back in time...

Willingly. He would find himself in that city's past - in his future.

The seed of his frustration was tied to that fact. All the lessons learned, all the connections made, all the sights seen and felt and experienced he desired to share with his refugee people were lost on his return. Why? Why expose him to something so amazing as a City of free thought without the chance to share it with others ( ... )

Birds were clearly superior animals to those four-legged abominations. They walked on two legs and could fly. The feathers were strange, but better than being completely covered in hair. Could that be the reason as to why humans chose to keep those creatures as companions opposed to birds? Clothes were a lot like hair, especially the coats with hoods that were on sale at the shopping mall ( ... )

Acknowledgment was a stronger tug on his consciousness than passing curiosity, slowing his steps and giving him cause to move further to the edge of the path in order to avoid delaying others on their way. He blinked, starting to look around for the source of the pull...

How he hadn't noticed something so unusual before was beyond him. He stopped outright, eyes fixed on the strange being not far away. He was having to relive the shock of being faced with many, many out-of-place things again, and though having remembered his past with them softened the blow, neither his past nor present self ever saw anything like that.

But there was recognizable emotion there - not garbled, foreign sensations that would be more off-putting than any appearance.

What are you? he thought. An open thought, unchecked, for nearly everyone in that park was no telepath.

A human who could communicate through his heart? Unexpected, though it didn’t bother Astral. He appeared more amicable and less hesitant now. Conversations like these were familiar and easier compared to speaking with a strange human language, too.

I am Astral. He turned his physical attention away from Blue, and continued to watch the other people in the park. You are different than the others here. Stating the obvious was something he was really good at, alright.

There was a pulse of surprise from the response; he could count the number of people he had spoken recently to in that way on one hand. Suddenly that being was a great deal more interesting than before, unusual and curious to see as he already was in Blue's eyes.

He remained rooted to the spot he'd stopped; his full attention was Astral's.

I am, he replied at length. His initial surprise caused him to briefly lose the remark. I am a Mu, not human. Soldier Blue.

Who are you?

Astral. Perhaps Soldier Blue meant something more than that? After all, he asked what he was first… I’m also not a human. Brief thoughts associated with spirits and ghosts and how he is who he is and not anything different passed through his head. I am from the Astral World. He never found it strange that he was named after his world; Terra apparently shared her name with this planet, so he assumed it had to be normal. Thinking about it, she was a lot like a fuzzy astral person. Maybe it was a thing people did no matter what planet they were on or what they called themselves? Different dimensions would render different possibilities and this had nothing to do with Soldier Blue.

Astral floated over to him, looking over him curiously. “What is a Mu?”

At first, Blue thought he was the only one who could see him - this Astral, from the Astral World. The name as a location meant little and less as it did as a name; he'd never heard it used before. The quick little pinpricks of curiosity that came from passers-by only made him more aware of how odd it was, the both of them - one floating there, even. It wasn't enough to simply persuade minds to look elsewhere anymore.

"Someone born from humans, but not the same," he replied, his voice low. When the staring became too prominent for him, he began to move, stepping around Astral and walking onto the grass, heading in the direction Astral came before. He continued as he went along.

"I have abilities humans don't. I've lived a life longer than any human has."
