Astral liked Central Park. It was close enough to the MAC, so he never felt uncomfortable being there for long. Many, many other people liked it, too. That made observations much easier to conduct.

After a woman yelled at him for being nude in public earlier that day, he decided it was best if he avoided benches for now. What was nude, anyway? From her reaction Astral gathered it was considered bad, but he had no idea how he could cause any sort of offense. He needed to ask Yuma later. Perhaps his explanation would not be so poor this time?

What a foolish thought.

Children were playing not too far away. Astral watched, fascinated how humans wasted precious energy on frivolous activities such as play. As he found out the hard way weeks before, he had no such luxury. All actions were to be kept minimal or he risked being in a debilitating state again.

For reasons he couldn’t explain, he felt upset at these children. He wasn’t angry; he didn’t know them well enough to feel that way. Trying to comprehend this strange emotion which was similar to being upset without anger distracted him. He held his legs closer to his chest.

A good five minutes later, Astral finally noticed a bird was trying to nest in his hair again. He did nothing to stop it, instead focusing on other humans out and about. There was a man walking with his bizarre four-legged creature, a woman doting over a baby, a couple of children playing with a ball with black hexagonal spots… Not too different from any other day then.
