((BACKDATED TO VERY, VERY LATE LAST NIGHT.))

[The camera clicks on. It's pitch black for the first couple of seconds, as the light takes a moment to adjust, revealing the profile of a man lying on the floor in a perfectly adequate position, hands at his side, palms facing down, eyes closed and peaceful. What an oddly strict way to rest. Especially ( Read more... )

[Jack's face is grim, and not just because a man has been brutally and publicly murdered. True-Blue is- was- a MAJESTY member...]

I need someone to give me a location on this right now. Transmission trace, telepathy, I don't care.

Jack. Is this one of the government's team? I don't recognize him from the network. [aka wat is technology how do I trace comms]

I am, however, familiar with the cuts a sword makes.

He was. Codenamed True-Blue.

Can you ID the kind of weapon used?

It's difficult...the picture is so small. I expect I wouldn't be able to get to the body in person to verify, all I can do is guess from this distance.

It's certainly a sword, not a knife, from the depth of the cuts. Yet, I hesitate to say what kind specifically. It doesn't look like a straight blade like mine...oddly, it puts me in mind of the kind of cut a Karayan sword makes. [beat; right, Jack doesn't know who the Karayans are] ...a curved blade.

[Mother still isn't used to seeing carnage like this on a regular basis, unlike most of the other Imports. And she definitely isn't used to seeing it be people she's grown a bit fond of talking to. After running to the restroom to be sick, and cleaning up, she manages to swing a reply to the Network.]

Does anyone know where this man is? Will anyone go to him?

He was a healer. This should not have happened. I may not know what to think of his team, but he was a good man. We can not leave him this way.

[Mother recalls something then, and adds, more for her own ears than anyone else's:]

He said he had children.

Feels like it's somewhere around [blahblahblah]. Let me sit down with a map and I can figure out a specific address.

Hmm.
Of course he's dead.

This is intimidation. Isn't it?

We didn't just find a corpse. We watched him die.

Yes, it very well could be.
It's obvious that everything's planned. It's just a matter of what kind of reaction they were warranting from us.

A challenge or a warning?

His teammates appear to be genuinely distressed.

Your thoughts...?

He got too close to something.

They want us to know.

Hm.

The most pertinent question.

Likely their master plan, or a fragment of it.

Would that I had asked more pertinent questions. [oh well there's no use dwelling on that, he's reading her expression intensely] It's unfortunate you had to see that. Will you be all right?
