And how, exactly, were they killed? Or is that too confidential to entrust to us?

For what good it will do you, if any--the cause of death was the removal of the heart.

...I would also say 'blood loss', but then, that seems rather obvious given the first.

Mm. I'd ask how you know there's more than one murderer, but if the culprits are here that would be telling, wouldn't it? It's a terrible way to die.

Indeed.

Scary...

So the victims didn't have anything in common at all, with one another?

I suppose one might make the statement that none of them were imPorts, but then, the normal Citizens vastly outnumber us. One would be foolish to immediately assume that it means you are all not in equal danger. After all, they need only to find one of you in the wrong place at the right time--so to speak--for that to change.

Other than that, I have found no reasonable connection between them.

Mmm, that makes sense. There's only a few hundred of us, I think, so it seems like it would be harder for one of us to be hit randomly.

Rather.

As a matter of fact, one might even believe that one of you dying would be the first sign that it had stopped being random at all. It would take quite a lot of effort to bring an imPort down, to be sure--actually, I imagine it would require other imPorts to do it, as they would need a great deal of inside knowledge about their foes. Personality, strengths, weaknesses--and so on. Quite a task to remember all of that in the heat of the moment, even for people as brilliant as they seem to be.

You're responsible for makin' the population aware of current danger?

How'd you get that job? 'Cause it sucks an' there's about 40 or so murders, 130 sex assaults, an' 1,510 robberies a month that you ain't even touched on, so you best get you crackin'.

I am responsible for it in this instance because I choose to be.

You will notice that I have assigned no blame in the direction of the police force for anything, and therefore, have not done a damned thing to cause you to open your admittedly over-large mouth.

Kindly remove your headset from your nearest orifice of choice and find someone devoting their time to a more asinine pursuit--let us say the latest inquiry as to the definition of 'hero' or whichever imPort begs for assistance in locating a job of their very own--instead of making use of their knowledge for the safety of others, at whom you may then direct both your misplaced sense of self-importance and ire.

Is the woman who was murdered on the network last week included in your tally?

...Ah. I had not thought to include her. I should investigate that as well. There could yet be more information to be discovered from it.

Thank you.

You're welcome.

I attempted to learn what I could of that crime but the police did not seem receptive to my offer.

Ah, well. There are laws regarding who is allowed access to information of that nature.

May I inquire as to what you did discover about it, if anything...?

That is... not quite the word I would use for it.

And why is it that you use the singular form of the word when I have been addressing them as murderers?

Turning your question on its head, who ever said that I had any reason to do so?
