Today was the main day of DevOps World Silicon Valley. As I explained last night, I dressed today as Jenkins the Butler- the logo/mascot/logo/spirit of the open-source project Jenkins CI. And unlike past shows when I've portrayed Jenkins, I stayed in costume the whole day today.

It's about 5pm and I've gotten back to my hotel. I checked out this morning but left my suitcase with the bell desk so I wouldn't have to lug it through the conference. Yeah, I could have gone straight to the airport from the show if I'd taken it, instead of trudging on foot almost a mile back to my hotel, but the waits for taxis, Lyft, and Uber ( Read more... )

San Francisco, CA - Thu, 14 Nov 2019, 11amI packed a costume for this week's trade show and didn't tell anyone in advance. Yes, I literally own all the pieces for cosplaying as Jenkins the Butler now. I've even bought a suit of the appropriate canon color. That's how serious I am. Wednesday at the trade show was another busy day. There was the morning keynote- which I "Clark Kented", as I called it- then a full day of booth duty with a few carve-outs for quick customer meetings upstairs. Tuesday night was a late one in San Francisco for a trade show. I didn't leave the evening reception until after it ended down at 8pm. Even then I still hadn't eaten dinner.

I walked back to the hotel still dressed as the butler. As before I didn't get as many strange stares on the street as I expected. Yeah, "weird" has a pretty high bar in SF. ( Read more... )

Still catching up from a busy week at a conference... where in addition to duties such as co-teaching a class all day Monday and helping with a 2 hour workshop Tuesday, I dressed up as Jenkins the Butler!

Wow. It's been a busy conference. Here it is Friday (as I write) and I'm still catching up on what happened Tuesday. Well, my moment of calm before the storm (previous blog) passed and I headed back over to the conference hall- dressed in full regalia as Jenkins the Butler.
