Sometimes I don't write because I have things to say?

Hi folks,

It has been a terribly long time since I wrote here! My calendar says mid-march. Which is...pretty much inexcusable considering what a newsworthy year it has been.

Okay, so the big news first: I'm pregnant! Erm, 7 months plus pregnant, actually (30 weeks). Which means that only maternity wear or some decent approximation fits and I can no longer see my feet without leaning over to try to find them. We're expecting a little girl - the official due date is January 12, but we'll see when she wants to make her appearance.

That would probably have been a thing worth mentioning, yes? And pregnancy has been a fascinating journey - hopefully I'll be able to catch up with some of the better bits as I write in the next few months.

It's been a busy year at work - I'm not sure why I get more and more busy as time goes on, but it seems to be happening. Hopefully this upcoming leave will put a damper on some of that because I have to say no to new projects for quite such a long time. I think I've gotten some good things done during the year, but I feel like I'm always rushed off my feet and as though there are friends I never get to see. My shape-note singing has pretty much stopped, which makes me extremely sad. I couldn't even make it to the Hyde Park singing last weekend because it conflicted with one of my "so you're about to have a baby" classes that I couldn't find a way to schedule at another time. I've barely been getting up to Milwaukee to play with the guys, and I find I'm going a month or more between visiting with even some of my closest friends. Time just slides by...

I have been exercising. Jazzercise and being a class manager kept me working out 2 - 3 times per week up until last Wed - which was officially my last class because it just doesn't feel good anymore. The last several weeks, I spent the whole time struggling with my ever-changing physique and after a certain point I just don't need that. I think I did pretty well to get past 7 months with a fairly high impact, high intensity workout.

We just celebrated our 3rd anniversary at the store, hooray! And the boy and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary back in August. (Probably about time we started reproducing, no?)

I think you should expect posts about food to resume, at least. In the last three weeks, my cooking instinct seems to have kicked back into gear after months of having it be completely absent. So tonight there is mushroom-barley soup and yesterday, I made a pretty fantastic pumpkin dish that I need to post the recipe for because it was super easy and tasty. I just finished re-reading Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food because I was looking for inspiration to get away from convenience foods after seeing the new study on BPA and pregnancy. Still an interesting read, still good for that purpose. Still have a couple of quibbles with his approach, even though overall I completely agree with the message.

So hopefully that will get me started again. Hi! How are you all doing?
