How many boxing movies do we need? Apparently, never enough! And is every boxing movie an Oscar contender? It seems so. Some have compared The Fighter to Rocky and Cinderella Man. This is interesting. Apparently, people are getting extremely depressed - even suicidal - after watching the pristine perfection of life on Pandora so that reality just doesn't cut it anymore.

This movie is very similar in feel and touch to the movies of the 1930s and 1940s. The comedies of that time period took the grim, real issues of the time and put them in a light that made the situation seem more swallow-able. That's what this movie does. I think Sherlock Holmes may be the new James Bond: gritty, hardcore, and always ready for a good fight. Yet there's not doubt that he's Sherlock Holmes - a borderline manic depressive eccentric who cannot function unless he has a goal to accomplish.
