Summary: It didn't hurt. It couldn't hurt.
It had seemed like the perfect plan. If she didn't have a sister, maybe the hurt would dissapear.
Kaori began to avoid walking past the door just beyond the staircase. She would wake up early and leave before Shiori woke up. She would take the shortcut home to avoid Shiori waiting for her. She would refuse to look out the window to see her sister standing in the courtyard. After a while, it became so routine, Kaori barely realized that it happened.
Her mother would plead with her, but the words just fell upon deaf ears. At some point Kaori began to block out everything that had to do with that person. It was for her own good. It would help her in the end. She tried to convince herself that it was working, tried to pretend that the pain wasn't worse than before.
Stumbling across the photos she had painstakingly hidden away, Kaori's breath caught in her throat. It didn't hurt. It couldn't hurt.
She wondered when she would start to believe her own words.
