Summary: Things had changed so much within the past year.
It was far too quiet aboard the Gekko. Most of the crew seemed to be unsure of what lie ahead. They were used to a life on the run; the sudden promise of peace and a chance to settle down seemed almost foreign. Holland planned on leaving the children with Axel when the time came. He claimed it would do the old man good to be around the children, but Talho could see that he would miss having them around.
Talho absently brushed a strand of hair away from Maeter's face as the girl curled up tightly against her side. Linck was slowly nodding off to her left, head starting to droop as he fought a losing battle against sleep. He leaned over, head falling into Talho's lap even as he murmered, "...not tired..." Maurice had left to spend time with Stoner and the cameras, leaving the three of them alone in the common room.
She leaned back, feeling content for the first time in a long time. Talho's eyes flew open as the back of the couch tipped down and Holland's voice began to whisper in her ear, "Now there's something I never thought I would see."
Talho shot him a warning glare, keeping her body still as the children shifted in their sleep. Holland only laughed and placed his arm around her shoulder. "It's going to be even quieter without them around." He absently ran his free hand through Maeter's hair and Talho smiled despite her irriation.
Things had changed so much within the past year. Leaning against Holland, Talho wondered how he had matured this far without her noticing.
