(ooc: drabble post, 10)

For some reason, I stopped posting my drabbles about 30 drabbles ago. Since I've managed to break the 150 mark with my NP drabbles, I figure it's time to catch up. Woo.

Lots of Pimichu drabbles, no doubt inspired by Caitlin's return from hiatus back in January or something :D

G.
Correspondence.

She sends him letters he never opens because he's too afraid of what they say. As long as he keeps them sealed he can continue to believe that he might have a chance.

He doesn't read them, but he writes replies to every one - "walked into a door today," "funniest thing happened to me," "heard your match on the WWN - since when are you a beater?"

Years later she pays him a visit and she finds the box stashed in a corner, the words on a piece of paper catch her eye - "Pimento - thought you should know that I love you..."

G.
Mimicry.

When he figures it out, he starts to make a conscious effort to change his behaviour. Instead of automatically flying off the handle when she snipes at him, he just watches. He brings her food when she misses dinner drawing up plays, and he gently calms her fears when she stresses over every other little thing that comes to her mind.

And he considers past evidence, past people, and carefully performs the spell to change shaggy blond locks to an inky black.

He draws the line at learning to play the guitar, however - he's never been all that musically inclined.

G.
Panic.

Chatter caused him to look up from the young cockatrice he was struggling with and he saw her walking past him in tight-fighting Quidditch robes and Gillichu knew that he couldn't do this on his own. That Saturday found him in Hogsmeade, nervously dialing a number into the Muggle telephone that the pub owner had been kind enough to let him use.

Clutching the Muggle device in his hands, he didn't even wait for Amaury to finish his greeting. "Please, you have to help me," Gillichu begged, "I think I'm in love with Pepper - how do I make it stop?"

PG.
Roses.

When young, he would regularly sneak into his mother's office and take it from her desk drawer, and there was comfort in the feel of whorled roses under his fingers. Growing older, he'd little need for roses, and his visits dwindled to once a year at Yuletide, when there was no relief from the family.

He no longer visits her study. There's no need - the little knife's lain in the drawer of his bedside table for years now, and each morning when he hears her laughter in the other room, Gillichu no longer has to keep himself from using it.

PG-13.
Slander.

"I... may have broken Kittu's nose today," he says, and immediately wishes he hadn't.

"Really?" she asks. "What'd he do?"

He wants to say, He said he popped your cherry. Wants to say, He said you sucked off all the blokes on the Hufflepuff team, or, He said you let Ledger finger you when you couldn't deep throat him. He says, "Bastard's snogging my sister," which is true and safe, because even though he broke Kittu's nose and made the other boy take back his words, Gillichu's scared he might learn that Kittu knows Pepper better than he ever will.

PG-13.
Red.

When Kittu goes off on how Pepper's such a slut, Gillichu's vision turns red and he starts pounding Kittu senseless - anything to make him shut the fuck up.

He relents eventually, and the other boy escapes to the hospital wing. In reality, it's not Kittu he's angry with, it's himself, since even as Kittu said all those awful, horrible things about Pepper, Gillichu couldn't help but wonder how it would feel if she did those things to him-

Gillichu takes a deep, shuddering breath and aims his wand, speaking the words of a cooling charm. Best not think about it.

PG.
Secure.

The truth of the matter is that Gillichu feels much more comfortable with her these days - much safer. He no longer worries about her being lured away by someone handsomer, no longer worries about her being disgusted by the scars that cover so much of his body. The fact that she's become almost entirely dependent on him helps as well, because that means she'll think twice about leaving if she ever tires of him.

But none of that makes up for the terrible guilt he feels whenever he looks at Pimento and her sightless eyes fail to return his gaze.
