Okay, obviously, I don't have a picture of the entire city of Toronto. However, the CN Tower is for me, the most iconic piece of Toronto architecture, and it's always been the landmark that makes me feel like I'm home as soon as I can see it. So this is my picture of my town. No, you're not getting a picture of my hometown, because a) it didn't ask for my hometown, and b) I don't think I have any pictures of Marlton. Besides, who really wants to see a picture of Marlton? :p
So, Kira visit! She got up somewhere around 9 on Friday night, I think, and we didn't do much that night because it was late. She did give me my awesome ninja knitting kit, though. Saturday, we ran some pointless errands, and I took her to lunch at Harvey's so she could have a Canadian meal experience. I made her get the poutine, too, because I felt like that was a must-try. We then spent a few hours at Vaughan Mills Mall, which was mostly fun, and then got kind of overwhelming. (I wonder if it's a sign that I'm getting old that I can't handle being in malls for too long anymore?) I got my eyebrows threaded for the first time, because I wanted to try it - it didn't really hurt much more than plucking them does, but the pain was just more spread out because they're covering a bigger area at one time with the threading. My eyebrows were really red for a couple hours afterward, but besides the redness, I think they came out well, and I was pleased with it. Don't know that it's something I'll do all the time, but maybe every once in awhile.
Anyway, we shopped, obviously, and I got some cute clothes for myself, which was nice because I haven't bought anything for myself in awhile. I got a cute gray belted sweater dress and drapey cardigan from Limite (Aimee, how do you do the accent mark over the e?), a pair of argyle tights from Payless, two cute hooded t-shirts ($5 each!) and a pair of cropped leggings from Urban Planet, and a pair of jeans for $20 from Old Navy, so it was definitely a successful shopping day. I wore the sweater dress and tights to work yesterday, and plan on wearing the cardigan and jeans on Friday. It's always fun to have new clothes! After the mall we made a brief stop at home before heading over to Becca's for her get-together. Amy had called and told me she wouldn't be coming because she was sick, so it ended up just being me, Kira, Becca and Becca's friend Jagna. We ate delicious food (this yummy couscous salad that Becca made, and this Japanese cheesecake thing that Jagna brought, plus I made rice krispie treats), had a few drinks, watched Juno, played madlibs, and generally just chatted and had a good time. I was totally shocked to learn that Jagna, who I'd met before and think is a cool person, is much older than I thought. I had thought she was around the same age as Becca, who's 33, but it came up in conversation that Jagna has a 21 year old son, and is actually 43! She looks fantastic; I would totally never have guessed her real age.
So Sunday, we slept in and chilled before going to the movies to see Blue Valentine. TOTALLY DEPRESSING. Seriously. If you want to see a movie that will make you feel miserable and like there is no hope in any relationship ever, go see this. Otherwise, perhaps you should stay away from it. It was just bleak and made me unhappy. After that, we hung out at Second Cup and talked about our family and other stuff before coming home for dinner. Then we went to Lucky Strike for bowling, where we each got exactly one strike. Came home and watched Up because we needed a happy movie after Blue Valentine. Monday we went to Snakes & Lattes, where we met up with Amy just as we were putting our names in for a table. It was freeeeeeezing out that day, so instead of wandering around Bloor, we popped into a nearby bakery/cafe and enjoyed warm beverages, chatted and played hangman while we waited. Finally got a table and had a hilarious time playing Hedbanz, Dutch Blitz? (I think that was the name; it was a cool card game Amy had played before), and Monkey Lab. It was a lot of fun, and I'm really glad we got to go. At one point while we were there, a cameraman and reporter from Citytv showed up and started talking to one of the girls who works there. There may or may not exist footage of me reading the directions to Monkey Lab in some newsroom somewhere now, as the cameraman definitely filmed us at our table for a few minutes. :p
Monday night was low key; Brad made us dinner again, and we watched a movie on Netflix. I dropped Kira off at Downsview Tuesday morning on my way to work, and she is safely back in Philly again. I'm really glad she came up and I had a good time with her while she was here. Today, I worked out on the elliptical for the first time, and oh man. My body is so not used to physical exertion like that. I made it through the whole 30 minutes without having to lower the resistance, but was definitely sweating and breathing pretty heavily by the time it was over. I know I'll get used to it once I start doing this more often, but right now, I couldn't tell you the last time I got any real exercise, so I know my body's going to hate me tomorrow.
Okay, this is probably long enough, and I can't really think of anything else to say at this point, so time to go read some of your entries!
