Wow, what a weekend (+)
Thursday I cleaned the whole house and did laundry including all the bedding. The only thing I didn't do was wash the floors. I'm waiting for some insane burst of nesting energy to carry me through a good floor scrubbing ;o). Once that was finished I pulled myself together and went to pick the TX gals up from the airport. Lisa was already waiting and it was nice to see her again. We sat and chatted for a bit before Candace and Misti appeared. We didn't have to wait long for luggage and then we were off.
We stopped at Friendly's for dinner. I was super naughty and ate loaded waffle fries. They were so good! I figured I could get away with it because with all the busy cleaning I didn't get much of a chance to eat. It was like old times back in Texass munching away and chattering too loud. Then it was off to the house.
The ladies stashed their luggage away and got a chance to see the nursery in its (almost) finished state. Then we lounged around the living room and Lisa and I gave Misti her bday gift (a wII fit). From Misti I got my Le Creuset cream and sugar plus a really sweet notebook with a picture of Sofie and Audrey on the cover. Lisa got her gift from Misti too and put it right to use - a complete black jack set up. We had fun playing a few hands. Audrey even played with us. It was late by the time we went to bed. Misti got to snuggle with me since Hubby was still away at training.
The next morning I heard the dogs go wake up Candace and Lisa in the guest room. I hauled myself out of bed and tossed on some sweats to head to the commissary. I hadn't had a chance to go shopping so I picked up juice, milk, bagels, and cream cheese for breakfast. After eating we slowly pulled ourselves together before finally heading out. We wanted something quick (but not fast food) for lunch so we stopped at Noodles and Company. Misti and Candace loved it, Lisa was mediocre. We made it in to Target and the Commissary for shower foodies etc and then headed home. Chris was already home from training and absolutely exhausted and bruised after training.
My mom and aunt arrived soon after we got back. We played black jack while getting dinner ready. I prepped some chicken kebabs for dinner and we ate that along with salad and the cake balls the girls made. It was a great meal. That evening Mom gave me my birthday gift from her and my father - I had asked for the comfort measures and child birth classes that my yoga instructor offers. Lisa and Candace gave me my birthday gifts too. Lisa gave me a GC for Lululemon so I can get cute exercise clothes after Baby arrives. Candace gave me a Le Creuset soup pot and magnet. I really love my gifts.
The ladies started to get to work in the kitchen for the shower. I was up in the nursery trying to figure out where to put a couple shelves and getting some other things hung on the walls. We went to bed really late that night but I got up at 7am to do some cleaning. I washed all of my wine glasses and cocktail glasses, plus the tea cups. I cleaned the kitchen so that it would be ready for my friends to continue prepping. After a couple hours of that I had to go upstairs to get ready for the Comfort Measures for pregnancy/labour/post workshop that Chris and I were taking. We really enjoyed it, learned a lot of techniques and time just flew!
Once home I had to shower and pull myself together. I was ready just as the first guests started arriving. The house looked great with the decorations and the food all laid out. Misti had given me a fantastic lamb blanket that was draped across the back of my chair. Candace made a really nice diaper cake too. Everyone who RSVPed (except one aunt) made it and we had a great time with food, games, and gifts. Misti did a great job of keeping things moving and playing host. Candace took her usual roll of paparazzi. It was a wonderful afternoon and my family and friends were very generous with their great gifts. Chris even got a couple "dad" gifts including a funny "diaper tool belt" from his mom.
After clean up and recovery we headed out for dinner. We went to Mimi's Cafe where Chris and I treated everyone in appreciation for all their hard work. It was a really nice dinner. I've only been to Mimi's once before and forgot all about liking it. That evening was a bit rough as my mom finally told me what has been going on with my brother's wife (and him as well) back home. My dad didn't want her to tell me but really, I guess it is stuff I should know. I won't get in to it here but things are just crazy back home. Since when has my family had any drama in it? Just since mid February when my brother's wife apparently lost her mind. Back downstairs I chatted with my girlfriends for a bit, Chris went to bed, and I put together the baby swing. Misti and Lisa had great fun suggesting boy names for us. We have 2 girls names we love, but no boy names yet.
The next morning my mom and aunt left bright and early. Chris and I went back to sleep and the ladies slept in as well. It was a much deserved sleep for all of us. We dragged through the morning a bit. Chris headed off to take his mom out for lunch and the ladies and I headed out to grab a bite to eat at Cosi (we had s'mores!) and then to the mall to do a bit of shopping. We were all a bit tired so we headed home. That evening we had a fantastic dinner at Victoria Gastro Pub. Plus I finally got things around here tidied up.
The next morning Lisa played sous-chef and helped me toss together monkey bread for breakfast. I made extra caramel for it and it ended up being too much and some poured out after I flipped it onto the serving dish. That's ok, it made it all the better. After breakfast we hopped into the car, took Lisa to the airport, then headed to monitoring at the hospital. It was nice having Misti and Candace with me. They kept me entertained! After stopping by the house to collect Hubby we went to the airport again and said our goodbyes. Chris and I picked up fast food for dinner and called it an early night.
Yesterday I spent the day on the couch. I really needed some time to recover and was feeling all hormonal and weepy. Plus the swelling in my hand is causing tingling and pain so it just added to the general feeling of blahness yesterday. I'm doing better today. I was cheered when a gift for Baby arrived yesterday, the aunt who couldn't make it to the shower sent the little play place! It was one of the 2 or 3 things that we don't have that we wanted within the next month or so for Baby.
I spent a good half hour standing under the warm shower last night before getting in to bed and then slept like a rock until 9:30 this morning. Chris has been bugging and bugging for the past couple days to give me my birthday gift. I'd rather have it tomorrow on my actual birthday. Besides, he said it isn't even wrapped yet! What would he do if I finally said yes? I'm going to finish watching a show here on TV now then start to tackle some of the organization and stuff I need to do in the nursery. I need to start setting goals and priorities to get things done here. We're less than a month to go now that I'm at 36 weeks today.
