Felicia (my niece) saw her pediatrician on Thursday and it isn't a relapse. She is still recovering from Kawasaki disease but that isn't what has her sick now. She has a pretty bad cold and her asthma is bad right now. She's going to school again but not full time. I think she's doing a full day, followed by a half day, then a full day. Back home the kids go outside a lot more than here in the US. They have a 10-15 minute break outside in the morning and afternoon, plus most schools have about an hour lunch period and most of that time is spent outside. Since she's in recovery right now she can't go outside so where do they put her? In the office with all the sick kids so she's constantly being exposed to the worse germies all the time. They need to find another place for her to go during recesses.
Friday Chris had the day off. After puttering around here most of the morning we finally headed off to Baltimore to go to a police store to get a couple things he wanted. Well they didn't have the items. Once we got home it wasn't long before Chris had to head out to his football meeting. He's joining a full contact football team here. It is financed by the MWR and soldiers etc from all the DC area bases feed into it. The meetings and trainings are at Walter Reed in the heart of DC. Right now his conditioning schedule is Mon-Wed-Fri. I'm not sure about actual team practices. In August they will switch to Tues-Wed-Thurs with games on Saturday against local colleges. I don't know how that is going to work with his work schedule or with the baby. I'm hoping that he won't have to do all his conditioning out there, that he can do it in the gym here. Being gone 4 times a week plus his regular work might be too much once the baby gets here. I'm going to be supportive but he knows my concerns and I won't be alone here with a newborn baby every day all day.
Friday night was when I felt the baby move for the first time. The next morning we got a call that Silas was born. I talked to my brother later in the day and found out that he is 20" long, 7lbs 1oz, has some dark hair but not much. I still haven't seen any pictures but I'll be heading up next week to visit.
Saturday we made a trip to Babies R Us. I had been researching gliders and it was becoming insanely stressful. I just decided to take another look at the ones in the store and buy a more expensive one if I had to. I got the nicer version of the glider I had been looking at originally and paid about $165 more than I was originally going to pay. This one has better fabric - no microfiber so it will last, and a wider seat. The ottoman locks and glides plus has an angled little foot rest that can be pulled out. The glider itself locks and reclines. I don't know what I was thinking but I didn't take a picture of it! This is the same one but different colours:
I ordered espresso coloured wood with a greenish/beige fabric and it will be here by the end of March. I hope it will look nice in the nursery. Since our parents were so generous we'll still have some extra cash from my parents left over to buy the mattress for the crib as well as most of the money for the bassinet and travel system if we don't receive them as gifts. It doesn't look like Baby will have to sleep in a dresser drawer after all.
Saturday evening Chris and I watched the original Friday the 13th movie and got a pizza from our favourite local place. I was really good and only ate 2 of the smaller slices. When we were finished eating the baby started moving around so I had Chris put his hand on my belly and he was able to feel the baby for the first time. I didn't think he'd get the opportunity so soon after me feeling it.
Sunday morning while eating a slice of pizza for breakfast I noticed that my review has been posted for the change table!
I thought that was pretty neat. Around lunch time we headed out to see about Chris getting a hair cut but the barber shop was too busy. We stopped by the grocery store so I could pick up some oven ready lasagna noodles before stopping at Quiznos for lunch. Again, I was good and stuck to a small sandwich. Chris was going to play some football with a few work buddies but they didn't have enough players so he took the girls for a quick walk
while I changed the bedding and made him nice and comfy for a nap. He had to work last night from 6pm to 6am so I tried my best to be quiet. I planned this week's meals and made out my grocery list. Audrey barked at me when I left for the commissary but Chris didn't wake up. For a Sunday afternoon the store wasn't too crazy. I tell you though those cashiers are b**ches! I had loaded all my groceries up on the belt before she even started ringing me up so I went to help my bagger. After working in a grocery store for 6 years I'm pretty quick and know exactly how I want things packed plus I put my items up in groups that belong together in bags. I honestly don't mind bagging my own things anyway. But the cashier had something snarky to say to the bagger so I apologized to him when we were headed out to my car. He still got a tip so I don't think he cared one way or the other.
Once home I unloaded the groceries while Sofie took the door being open as an opportunity to wander out and ignore me when I called her back. Brat! I got her back in to the house and by the time I had everything put away it was time to wake Hubby up. He showered and headed off to work. I started dinner - quiche instead of the lasagna because Chris was hungry and the lasagna would take too long. The great thing about living on base is that he can come home during his shift. His primary job is to respond to traffic accidents so as long as he is listening to his radio it doesn't matter what he does. Often he'll run radar or write parking tickets but there just isn't a lot going on Sunday nights around here. His shift started at 6pm and he was home around 6:30 to eat some quiche
Yes, it is a store bought crust but I made my own filling. He headed off again and I started to work on laundry. Honestly, it has been piling up especially the linens and such. So I did about 7 loads of laundry to keep me busy. At least everything is now clean. Plus I have been craving cupcakes so I baked some of those too
It was my first time trying a bag and tip for the frosting. Now what am I going to do with almost 2 dozen cupcakes? I ate TWO last night, Chris had one when he stopped by shortly after 3am to grab some coffee and a sandwich, and I had another after my breakfast slice of pizza. At least I made 4 slices of pizza last me three meals.
After my laundry marathon, chatting with my MIL, baking, and tidying up, I set up the coffee pot for Chris so he could brew it during the night, and I headed to bed. I fell asleep fast after I turned out my light but after a long busy day and going to bed around 1am I'm not surprised. I heard Chris' radio when he came in during the night and went down to see him. I didn't stay up, I went back to bed and he came to say goodbye when he left. Then shortly after 6 this morning Chris got home and after washing up crawled in to bed. I fell back asleep and woke up shortly after 9.
I'm trying to stay out of the kitchen because I can smell the cupcakes when I'm in it. I finished off the last of the laundry and I have a lasagna to make soon. Early dinner tonight because I have yoga and Chris has football in DC.
