“Come on, Merlin, we’re almost late,” Morgana said.
“But you’ve told me almost nothing about her,” Merlin replied.
“That’s because I know next to nothing about her.”
“Then how do you know she’s not some kind of axe murderer or something?”
Morgana rolled her eyes. “Obviously I don’t. But I have a good feeling about her.”
Merlin pulled her to a stop. “Okay. I believe you. So what do you know about her?”
She took his hand and started moving again. “She’s my half-sister on my mother’s side. Older, obviously, since Mum died after I was born.”
“But Uther was married to Arthur’s mum when you were born.”
“Yeah, he cheated on her. One more reason to despise him.”
Merlin grimaced. “Okay, we’re here. How are we going to tell her apart from anyone else in this café?”
“She’ll have a yellow rose on her table.” They looked around. “Oh there she is.” Morgana pointed to a table where a blonde woman sat.
“She’s blonde.”
“So what?”
“I guess I thought she’d have the same color of hair as you.”
As they approached the table, the blonde stood. “Morgana Pendragon?”
“Yes. Are you Morgause?” Morgana replied.
“Morgause Le Fay. Please to meet you.” She held out her hand for Morgana and Merlin to shake. “And you are?”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Morgana said. “This is my boyfriend, Merlin Emrys.”
Morgause’s eyebrow lifted. “Charmed. Shall we sit?”
“Yes,” Morgana replied.
They all sat, and Morgause said, “Ask me whatever you’d like.”
“Why did you wait so long to contact me?” Morgana asked.
Morgause sighed. “Uther Pendragon blocked my every effort to find you. But once you started university, he had no more hold over you and I was able to find you.”
“I knew it! That man is responsible for so much pain in my life.”
Merlin took Morgana’s hand. “He’s got a lot to answer for.”
“He does indeed,” Morgause agreed.
“Will you be in my life now?”
“As much as you’d like me to be.”
“I’m glad. I don’t know what it’s like to have a sister,” Morgana said.
“I don’t either. I have no other siblings,” Morgause replied.
“We’ll learn together,” Morgana said as Morgause reached out and took Morgana’s other hand.
Merlin smiled. It looked like Morgana would finally have the strong female presence in her life that she’d craved for a long time.
