I'm trying

I never seem to have time to do everything I want, even when I have three day weekends now.  But I'm trying.  I'm trying to run 3x a week, do yoga 3x a week, try a new recipe a week and keep up with all the normal stuff, laundry and dishes and cleaning and whatnot.  I never seem to get everything off my to-do list, though.

But, the running is going well. John and I are doing the Couch to 5K program together since I want him to run the Corporate Challenge with me in the spring.  We started last week and he's doing well.  It's annoying that because he's so tall, he'll always be able to run farther and faster than me, but that's ok, I'm doing well on speed and hope to get to my less than 10 minute-mile goal soon.

The yoga's doing well, too. I need it, especially with all the running. I've been doing bedtime yoga on nights I'm not at the gym, which is very relaxing and stretchy and then on the weekend I've been doing my P90X yoga DVD kt_austenfan gave me. It's KILLER.

I didn't get a new recipe in last week officially, but tonight I made herbed carrot soup with a large bag of carrots I needed to use up. It's hearty, simple, great with a big dollop of yogurt on top and a slice of homemade bread.  But this weekend I want to try my friend's Italian Grandmother's homemade marinara sauce recipe. It seems simple, but I think it's going to be one of those things that I'm going to practice at to get perfect.

And, speaking of recipes, John made me dinner a couple nights ago. He made a skillet lasagne that was very tasty. And when I came over, he had his table set and a candle out and everything all set up, it was very sweet of him.  We feed each other all the time, but it was the first time he made a fuss like that.

Oh, and I have to talk about knitting. I'm working on an oversized shrug right now, sort of like a shapeless sweater wrap.  But it's out of this green yarn I've tried to use before and nothing ever seems to work with it, so I think this WILL work because it's so simple and hard to mess up. It's boring, just lots of stockinette stitch, but it's something to do when sitting down watching McLeod's Daughters and it's on big needles so it's a nice break from making socks.  Plus, I bought a skirt at Amvets before Christmas that has the same shade of green in it so I have a cute outfit in the works.

I'm fixing a pair of socks I knit last year when I first learned how to make toe up socks and I totally botched the heels. Plus, they turned out too long in the foot so they were only good to slouch around the house in. Plus, I had TONS of yarn leftover, so I tore them down, I'm redoing the heels and then I'm going to make them taller since I have so much yarn. I wound the leftover yarn into two balls so I can keep going until I run out.

And then I'm knitting a pair of legwarmers with this fun grey & turquoise sock yarn I bought last year. I was going to make knee high socks with it (knee high socks are my new obsession, I don't know why) but then I was shovelling snow a few weeks ago and I got snow in my boots and I realized that 1) I need taller boots and 2) this yarn matches my snow boots so I figured I'd knit legwarmers I can wear over my boots to keep the snow out, my jeans dry and my legs warm when I'm wearing a skirt. Win. Win. Win. I'm knitting them at the same time on two circular needles so it seems like I'm not making any progress, but the great thing is I make all my changes at the same time so they'll be identical.  I have 4 skeins, 2 skeins each leg warmer, so I'll just go until I run out and see how it goes.

I got some fantastic yarns for Christmas and I have a whole list of projects I want to start so I'm knitting every second I can these days so I can get to the fun handpainted sock yarn or the gorgeous chunky alpaca that wants to be something warm.  I have this wonderful red silk/wool/alpaca blend that is waiting to be a kimono style sweater.  AND, I have bags of roving waiting to be spun into yarn!  So much to do, so little time!!  But right now it's time for YOGA!
