I have always wanted to see a film of The Masqueraders. I think if you could pull off the deception at the beginning it would make for a fabulous visual story.

It would be lovely. I've heard some radio adaptations and they're always such fun.

I know why doesn't Andrew Davies tackle Georgette Heyer! I will join in for this book discussion too. Can't find my copy yet though which makes me think it's in London! Also why not Miss Silver Mystery series instead of endlessly redoing Miss Marple (and messing them up!)?

No, no! *clasps Heyer novels tightly to her chest and eyes Andrew Davies threateningly* Anything would be better than that. Even fading gently into oblivion.

I agree about choosing to reread other 'fluffier' Heyers first, although I will and have reread it. Oh, and also prefering the older ones - I think, broadly speaking - or ones where the heroines are older.

woedcandy.net have been spotlighting Heyer (and put me in the mood for rereading one of her mysteries) and has a feature here asking the very question you've raised, and I've often pondered. My preference would be The Grand Sophy (probably entirely because it contains a monkey). Anyway, apparently there is an attempt to get someone to do an adaptation, but no-one in film or TV has yet seen the potential adaptability of Heyer.

Thanks for that link. I confess it had never occurred to me until I wrote the post!
I *love* The Grand Sophy.

It's amazing that no one has seen the potential.

I do hope Emma is good. It's my favourite JA. I have such a thing for My Knightley - you can all keep Darcy in his wet shirt. *fans self*

Oh, Mr Knightley for me too. 'It darted through her with the speed of an arrow that Mr Knightley must marry no one but herself!'

*nods agreement* Emma is my favourite, too and Mr Knightley my top hero. He's the only one with a sense of humour. 'And now if your friends have any gratitude they will say something pretty loud about you and me in return.'
And his wonderful put down of Mrs Elton about only allowing 'Mrs Knightley' to invite guests to Donwell. And 'There is one thing which a man may always do and that is his duty.' Sigh. What a gent.

I didn't even need to look these up!

Heyer's still in copyright, so more expensive to do than yet-another-Austen.

I do love "A Civil Contract", and am sorry now that my copy is in a box somewhere. You're right, it would make a great mini-series. (Except they'd probably cast someone gorgeous as Jenny and that would be so wrong.)

I expect you're right about the expense.

I just romped through ACC. I thought it would be acceptably modern because of the 'issues'.
