Bradenisms

I was going through some old photo albums at my parents house and came across some momentos from my parents friends funeral. His name was Michael Braden and he had a brilliant mind. He was really excentric and spent most of his life living by himself in the west end in a cluttered apartment of cats and plants. He really had a beautiful life though...living mostly through different channels of discussion (history, politics, religion, philosophy, etc). I certainly wouldn't be here without him. Mainly because he was the mutual friend that introduced my parents to each other (Wink wink nudge nudge).

Here are some of his sayings or Bradenisms! Just keeping him alive!

"I'm for the philosophy of common sense."
"Life is like a relay race."
"Known facts and reasonable deductions"
"I'm for collective co-operation not co-operative collectivism."
"It's the mechanics of the thing."
"We live in an economic system that uses politics as a tool. The communists live in a political system that uses economics as a tool."
"Everyone is an asshole -- It's just some you like and some you don't."
"You're just building buraucracy."
"Knowledge without understanding is like porridge without salt."
"The key to humility -- it is the lubrication of relationship. To rise above one's own ego--ego is the disturbing factor."
"The best insurance policy in the world; "They will be done.""
"It's better to smile and laugh than to worry. Bitterness is a dead end street."
"The threads we add to life are intertwined with the tapestry of history. Genealogy is the thread in tapestry."
"Sleep is the only thing that restores the energy."
"Judge not lest we be judged."
"Cold destroys your focus."
"In 15 generations a family grows to 27,000 descendents in 500 years. 34,000 people before each of us have contributed to our being."
"Families evolve in 5 generational cyclical patterns - grow and gain for 2, reach the pinnacle in the third and deteriorate in the 4th and 5th two before the cycle repeats."
"40 is the old age of youth; 50 is the youth of old age."
"We only have democracy when people are willing to be responsible. Freedom of individual responsibility: not freedom from individual responsiblity."
