Having dropped off my things and finished my initial morning check-in, I walked down to Safeway to get some DDP and some supplies for breakfast (not an uncommon occurence). Something glittered silver on the ground; a dime. Not being one to sneeze at found money, I picked it up and kept walking.
Something round and interesting-looking was on the ground a few feet away. I picked it up. It was a small button with a picture of a pretty girl and the words 'train wreck'. I put it in my pocket and kept walking.
Something glittered silver on the ground; another dime. Having found the cost of a phone call* and a picture of a pretty girl, what did I do?
I called my girlfriend to wish her a happy Friday and tell her I loved her.
Sometimes it's fun to be a hopeless romantic who believes in signs and portents. It gives me lots of excuses to do this sort of thing, and besides, hey, I made twenty cents off the deal.
(*When I was a kid, it was twenty cents to use the payphone. I know it's more now, but the initial programming still holds, just like I'm always a little surprised when the bus isn't a dollar and McDonald's ice cream cones aren't fifty cents. The areas in which I am programmed are few but firm.)
