Synopsis: How do they deck the halls in Halloweentown?

Marnie and Luke watched with dismay as Gwen bustled around their living room, hanging holly wreaths and strings of tinsel and blinking, brightly colored lights. She even tacked a piece of mistletoe above door to the hall.
"Marnie, why is your mother trying to turn our house into a forest?" asked Luke, sotto voce. "I don't like forests. Forests are where the bugbears live. I don't want bugbears living in the house."
"It's a Christmas tradition," said Marnie weakly. "Mom-"
"Nuh-uh, don't you 'Mom' me," said Gwen. She paused a moment in thought, then spun one finger in a corkscrew motion and shouted, "Weihnachtsbaum!" A large, fully-decorated fir tree appeared, the star on its tip nearly grazing the ceiling.
Marnie groaned. Luke just looked baffled.
"It's a tree," he said. "An actual tree in our house. Why is the tree covered in lights? Are we expecting low-flying birds to need a way to make a landing?"
"I let you have Christmas at your house for six years, while the children were too young to understand that the mortal world does things differently," said Gwen, as she adjusted the placement of an ornament. "This year is my turn, and we're having a proper Christmas."
"Who's Chris, anyway?" asked Luke.
Marnie buried her face in her hands and groaned.
