Day one: bring Alice home. Shut Lilly out of the bedroom. This works very poorly, as Lilly sneaks into the room at the first opportunity she gets. Hissing follows, but no smacking, which is encouraging. Lilly is confused. Alice is fluffy. I spend half the night in my room with Alice, and half the night in the guest room with Lilly.
Day two: the bedroom door stays shut at all times, but Lilly is in the room about half the time, being let in and out when she requests passage. Hissing is minimal. There is no smacking. Lilly develops the irritating habit of eating the kitten food and growling -- irritating because the kitten food makes her barf, and I have to clean it up. Alice is fluffy.
Day three: the bedroom door stays open all day, although Alice is very wary of the rest of the house, and mostly stays in my room. Lilly comes and goes as normal, meaning she's in the room as long as I'm there. Since the room contains food, litter, and water, she really feels no need to wander. Alice makes her first attempts to play with the bigger cat. Lilly gives Alice her first bath. Hissing continues, but very minimally, and with very little seriousness.
Day four: the bedroom door stays open all day. Alice and Lilly run the Kitty 500 through the house, managing to sound very much like a HERD OF ANGRY ELEPHANTS as they thunder around. Now they're both asleep on the bed, in their respective puddles of blue-and-cream. Cat integration is officially achieved.
In other news, Lilly actually let me sleep through the night the past two nights. I have achieved cat-owner nirvana.
