CD addict.

As part of the on-going efforts to render my house habitable by humans, rather than just dust bunnies and poisonous spiders, I'm gathering up all my CDs and putting them away on the shelves in my bedroom. There are two shelves in there: one is four layers high, and holds two hundred and twenty CDs (I bought it today). The other is three layers high, and holds one hundred and twenty CDs. I'm not entirely sure I can fit everything on those two shelves, which brings us to today's big conclusion.

I'm addicted to CDs. I mean seriously, heavy-duty addicted to compact discs. I knew I liked music, but this is getting a little bit unnerving.

My musical tastes have always been eclectic. I used to collect soundtracks, then folk music, then folk music and soundtracks...these days, about the only thing you won't find me buying is rap, and that's just because I don't like the way that it sounds. Everything else is pretty much fair game.

Starting at the top of my shelves, you have the section devoted to music from and about anime. Utena, Serial Experiment Lain, Sailor Moon and Fushigi Yuugi, they're all here -- my obsession with shoujo reigns supreme. Moving on, you'll find my soundtracks -- another remarkably mixed bunch, from experimental concept albums ('Jeckyll and Hyde', 'The Dracula Diary') to the pre-fab pop of 'Shrek' and 'Pokemon: the First Movie'. I like soundtracks. It shows.

Go down another shelf, and you're in the land of everything else. Brit-pop -- Marillion, B*Witched, Phil Collins. Trash-pop -- I own Hanson albums. Canadian country in the form of the Rankins, folk music, and enough 1980s rock and roll to gag a camel. Bubblegum goth (gotta love that October Project) and hard-driving albums from Melissa Etheridge and Meatloaf. The Pogues, the Waterboys, Nelly Furtado and the Indigo Girls, Deirdre Flint and Stan Rogers...either I have no taste or I have no barriers.

If there was an earthquake and my CD collection landed on my head, I would suffocate. Or is that 'drown'?

As a further note, I have the cases but not the liner notes for at least six CDs, and the cases but not the CDs for at least ten more. Methinks it's time to clean.

Damn.
