Since this is my first day back at work following quite a few lovely, lovely days off, it's a relative Monday -- a day that isn't really a Monday, but sure as heck feels like one. I'll have some deeper, more insightful things to say later on, as well as some fluffy, pointless ones (still being me, after all), but first, here are some random footnotes to kick things off:
* Lilly does not approve of my leaving town for a week, and is missing the feline 'shun you now' gene; she spent most of yesterday -- the parts of it where I was home, anyway -- latched onto me like a lamprey, purring loudly to illustrate her desire that I never leave her again. She's gonna be pissed come the end of the month, when I fly to the UK.
* The best thing about a new calendar year at the office is having a new, completely pristine desk calendar to mark up and abuse. Nothing is set in stone until it's written on this calendar...and now, as more and more things are written in, it begins to look like 2007 really exists.
* I will not be making New Year's Resolutions. I will be doing something else, instead. I will explain this in more detail later, after six or seven cups of coffee. All hail coffee, which enables us to handle the return to work.
* Despite pre-orders having been open for less than two days -- less than two days, people! -- we're already at seventy-six received, with the bulk of those confirmed (IE, 'we not only have your order, we have the payment for your order, too'). This boggles and delights me. Since we're only taking two hundred and fifty pre-orders, you, uh, may want to pre-order sooner than later, if you're planning to order this one.
* Over the winter break, I revised the bulk of the fourth Toby book, Late Eclipses of the Sun. This is largely notable because once I finish this one, I'll be starting to revise the first half of book five, The Brightest Fell. Why only the first half? Because that's all that exists. I expect to start writing new Toby for the first time in roughly two years by the end of January. Wish me luck.
* The countdown to England begins! Twenty-eight days until I fly. There's a lot to be done in the time I have left -- but I can manage it, if I plan my time well, and don't go crazy. I'll doubtless go crazy, but manage it anyway.
* Starbucks cards are nice. Jon and Merav love me. So does my Frappochino.
And that's all for right now -- hope your morning has some fantastic footnotes of its own, and here's a hug for all of you. Glee.
