Spoilers spoil things, or 'Seanan has no cable and she must scream'.

Okay, guys. The new TV season's getting underway -- if you, like me, adore shows such as 'Eureka' and 'Psych', the new TV season is already well underway, and just picking up steam -- and that means it's time for a plea. Namely:

Please, please, please don't assume I've seen any given episode until I say I have.

I have no cable. This isn't voluntary; it's just that I can't afford cable by myself, and my housemates don't watch television, and so are unwilling to split the cable bill. I could still watch 'Veronica Mars' and 'Supernatural' last season, because our local UPN/WB affiliates were broadcast channels; if our local CW turns out to be cable-only, I really don't know what I'm going to do. Besides crying. The phrase 'selling plasma to get first-run episodes' may come into the picture.

Right now, however, I'm content to either Bit-Torrent or watch things at aiglet's (since she has a really big TV and a TiVo that loves me). This means that I'm just about always one or two episodes behind, simply because a) my downloads aren't that fast/Kate isn't always home, and b) I have a lot of demands on my time.

I've been seeing a lot of people set arbitrary 'this came out X amount of time ago, so I no longer need to cut-tag detailed analysis'. And yes, I suppose that's true; technically, you don't need to cut-tag anything that you don't want to. It's your journal. But unsought spoilers, especially detailed ones, take enjoyment away from people who may just be a little bit behind, and failure to cut-tag means that people like me, who read fast, can't always make a choice about what they see.

Am I saying that everything, ever, is sacred and must not be discussed? No. Some things are unavoidable. But there's a big difference between saying 'there's a reset between seasons one and two of 'Martin's Passage', so everyone forgets what happened' and saying exactly, in detail, what happened. I still haven't seen The Sixth Sense because people spoiled me without my permission. For a long time, the attitude that if I hadn't seen it fast enough, it was just too bad for me was what kept me from watching 'Firefly'.

So here's the rub. Please use your cut-tags; please cut-tag detailed spoilers. I am asking you this nicely, as a friend, as someone who likes being able to follow your lives. If you can't cut-tag spoilers, please be aware that I pretty much won't be able to read your journals. It's not personal. It's not that I hate you. It's just that I've had two episodes of 'Psych', one episdoe of 'Eureka', and an episode of 'Life On Mars' seriously spoiled for me now, and I need it to stop.

Please?

television, request
